Didn’t follow the Queen’s lying in state much then. Southwark Park and the queue was all across the news.

You just don't get it do you, so I'm not going to bother explaining, but I will say my time taken to reply was because, shock horror, a mere northerner taking a break in their holiday home tucked away on a quiet remote Greek island and not using the internet for more than a week...

Surely just come back from a war zone as Greece and Turkey about to fall out again. Something the BBC News seems to not cover at all.

I followed Scotsman for while yesterday and she left Crewe at 12/0830 and she passed the Watford Railcam at 1207,I didn''t follow it all the way to Southall. She was in the Kings Langley loop for about 20' to 30' . She was scheduled into Southall at 1357.

Again? .... tricky with NI on our own doorstep I know, but not sure I'd call a situation pertaining since 26 August 1071 'News', as such.

There, I said the slight digression on the 1014 County of Glamorgan thread wasn't close to 'drift'. ;)

How hard can it be to explain?

I am though impressed that post holiday you waded through more than seven days of NatPres to reply angrily to a one-line joke that clearly sailed over your head…

Nice to see that Flying Scotsman was given a good block of air time on BBC Breakfast today with its celebrity appearance at King's Cross.

I know that there are different views about how this loco should look but that is all just background noise compared with what is standing at KGX today. Well done to all who were involved in getting one of our steam icons back on the rails.

It should look (and smell) precisely as it did when the photo was taken. A portrait of power in repose, with a light feather of steam at safety valves. :Pompus:

Has anyone got a shot of it at Paddington? You know, just to balance the Hogwarts Express at KX. :)

She does look fantastic. I know not everyone's favourite but I think the double-chimney/deflectors/dark green looks proper 'A3 GTI' and I'm very much a fan.

Obviously I would have preferred a different shade of green (cough!) but - there's no doubting - she looks fabulous. Just as I remember at the Llangollen railway in 1994, with some minor differences as she has of course had little things like the split smokebox handrail applied on the smokebox door.

I don't understand how this locomotive generates such negative reactions from people. It's a steam locomotive with a varied and magnificent history, the sum total of the different railways that operated her and the people that worked on and clearly loved the locomotive.

It's always been something of British culture that I do not understand: when you get a cultural icon like this, there are those who want to bash it and whinge and moan and decry it...because it's popular?

Whatever, I am glad it's back in the capital and I hope a new generation of steam enthusiasts sees it over the next few days.

Absolutely. A stark contrast with those engines that had to rely on entirely fabricated records to achieve notoriety, like City of Truro…

    ;) ;) ;)
