Thanks, so set 619 will eventually be recreated at Swanage with 6699, not with 1331, but with SO 1323 which has survived and presumably still has the mechanical control links to run Push Pull.

I travelled for £40 standard on a MK1 behind the Flying Scotsman in 2019, perhaps the previous increased price of £49 for standard was perhaps too much as people are watching expenses and £39 will sell better?.

Does look some are still willing to pay £99 for the luxury of the observation carriage with some food and drink which should help raise funds.

There's no mechanical links on a Southern Pull-Push system - it was done using compressed air (hence the Westinghouse pumps on the smokeboxes of ex-LSWR and SECR locos, which never had air brakes). This makes it really easy from the trailer's point of view, as all that's needed are through pipes - it's the equipment on the driving vehicle and hth loco that are complicated...

we might go next Saturday (22nd) and I am trying to make sense if the timetable

There are two single trips from Swanage to Norden at 1720 & 1821 with no corresponding return working, presumably one at least must be worked by Flying Scotsman unless there is a third loco in steam also the 1505 departure of the Flying Scotsman then croses with the normal service at Harmans Cross at 1510, which means some brisk running.

I have now noticed the two morning departures from Norden as well..........

    Can anyone explain?

The timetable is designed around feeding people from Norden car park into and from the Scotsman services. As such the return workings of the 1720 from Swanage is ECS to position it for the 1821, and the return of the 1821 service is ECS to Corfe where the stock berths. It is a similar principle with the morning trains as well; the corresponding Up workings are ECS.

Bear in mind that the times on the website are public times; as you will find on most railways, working times published internally will often vary slightly (as is the case with the nominal 1510 passing move at Harmans Cross).

No. Flying Scotsman will only be on its designated services.

Seems it was the launch of the second Maunsell coach today.Which I happened to notice when I looked at the 15:00 service on the webcam.
The 16:30 service (which I think may have been retimed to 17:00) departing Swanage in the gloom, and the headboard for the day. IMG_9877.JPG IMG_9868.JPG

Guess as Maunsell coaches lasted in service till the 60s some will have been in trains with West country locos?
Looking good ready for the Flying Scotsman service. One minor observation, the newly painted Maunsell coach roof does stand out from the other coaches, guess eventually will get dirtier?

The last I heard it was planned to be 34028, with 31806 Swanage station pilot.

.....and then after luvverrley days on the platform its over to the BNB for a nice pot of tea and a slice of cake and with a birds eye view of the FS running round. NOT . Huge missed opportunity there if we are talking about monetization!
