I really enjoyed my visit to the Talyllyn on Good Friday for their 'Stations at Stations' event - thanks to everyone involved for putting that on. Bishop Barry had some wonderful reflections on the stations of the cross at each station. It was great to see my two passions combine!
I also saw No.3 and No.4 on service trains. It was great to see No.3 running - as mentioned up thread, I think it's one that had always eluded me before.
What a lovely railway - definitely one of my favourites!

If interested, here's my video from the day. Comments and feedback welcome!

Exciting to hear in the latest TR General Manager's YouTube video that Dolgoch is coming back in proper TR green livery.

With much humility I visited the Talylynn today for the first time. Had a ride behind, appropriately, Tom Rolt.

Lovely trip up and back. Had to take it easy behind a sheep that had decided to lead the way along the track bed.! 20220907_093223.jpg

Can anyone truly say they have had the full TR experience if their train has not been held up by sheep?

Somewhere I spent a lot of my childhood at! In all seriousness Al it’s nice you made it mate, my niece was a little disappointed she couldn’t see the real Skarloey and Rheneas when she was over from Australia in July. (She saw the photos of me and her Dad with Peter Sam when we were younger) :):)
Nice to know 30 years later sheep on the line is still a problem ;)

I cut my teeth on the TR before moving onto the standard gauge. One thing I noticed was that sheep nearly always run between the rails on the N.G. but outside them on the standard gauge. :)
A Ph.D for someone in sheep psychology there, perhaps? Don’t laugh, I know someone who did one in horse psychology.

One of the fireman years ago had a theory that the sheep were used to being guided by sheepdogs so ran fairly straight as if they nipped off sideways a sheepdog would try and stop them. His theory was the sheep saw the engine as a type of sheepdog.

I was impressed with the speed the headboard was put together, which was on the 10:00am train, although I presume they could have prepared most of it, except for the last two numbers, any time in the last 20 odd years.

Let's hear it for the Talyllyn - it still retains its charm, although inevitably there are compromises with the modern world and all its elfansafety obsession. Somehow, though, the modern world does not spoil the experience. I really enjoyed my trip last week.

Yeah ... all that continuous brake malarky. Dunno what the world's coming to! ;)

It'll be great to see No.1 back in harness. I was lucky enough to have a trip up the line behind it on a day when it was behaving, back in the early 70s, before John Bate and his team had rid it of all it's bad habits. Part of me won't believe the reported new livery until I see it. Looking forward to seeing the Old Lady back in TR green for the first time in ...... ? :)

Since it was last outshopped in 2007?

...so, in 15 years, although it was 2018 when I shot this video of it just before withdrawal, so it hasn't been visible at all in any colour for the last 4 years.
Must admit I did quite like it in BR black, although think it was crying out for the ferret & dartboard on the tank. [yeah, I know - officially "LNWR"]

"The Old Lady" I think refers to Dolgoch, which is coming back in TR green. Talyllyn is apparently going to appear in GE blue...

Great photoshop, isn't it? The TR YouTube channel is one (of around 150!) I 'watch' for updates, The GER (pre-WWI) livery is one of the greatest joys eyeballs can behold IMO, but I'm still not going to be 100% convinced it's not a wind-up until I see for myself. :)

Many thanks to @I. Cooper for the date .... and piccie of No.1 in it's cabriolet state (could you imagine the loco as delivered, without trailing wheels?). And @Steve B, yes ... to those of a certain age, Dolgoch is and will forever be 'the Old Lady'.

A question that’s been vexing me please. Is the Corris’ Falcon new build the same design as either (or neither) no. 3 or no. 4 now on the TR?

    TIA

No.10 is the 'replacement' No.3. AIUI, with quite a few concessions to the 21st century. Taller cab with removable LH 'door' in order to recreate original single-sided access or removed, to improve same, it's trailing wheels 12" rather than the 10" castors on No.3. Lubrication system looks rather more modern too. There are likely more by way of design tweaks, but it'll take someone better versed than me to list them.

No.7 expressly isn't a straight copy of No.4, but an updated design. I believe referring to it as a copy will result in the offender being required to stand in front of Y Mochyn* and 'apologise and seek counsel' in a very loud voice, Catterick style,

    * Oes unrhyw obaith? Have a look back through www.corris.co.uk photo galleries. :)
