Or a certain pink engine that was billed each year, for steel and steam, it did make it in the end, but was soon found to be a complete basket case.

Best would seem someone who is qualified as a mediator but either has no previous interest or involvement in railway preservation or has such an interest and involvement but in some other country.

Some years ago, HR wrote something about a loco along the lines of 'a GCR spokesperson said "..."'. The quote was a verbatim copy and paste (used without seeking permission) from something I wrote on this* forum (and whilst I may be a volunteer, I am certainly not a GCR spokesperson). I have never bought that magazine since. And I doubt the others are any better.

*Technically it may have been some other forum, can't remember now. Accuracy is irrelevant for the purposes of this post.

Something which sadly extends way beyond just the specialist railway media these days!

Good luck with that, from the petulant way he responded to criticism of the initial approach they were taking re 7027 in the subsequent issue I cannot see the Editor engaging.

From recollection didn't SR run a piece a fair few years back suggesting that the completion of the Bluebell Atlantic was pretty much days away?

The editor of Steam Railway Magazine has written back to me this morning, and I am considering my response.

In the interests of transparency, I have been asked to retract comments I have made on this forum. I will be going through what I have presented with and I will make a public response when I have clarity on what I am able to say.

On the whole, not quite what I was hoping for, but I think my efforts now are at a natural conclusion.

Or magazine reports of the B12's running in in Germany to commence. Even spent a day on the line in question in the hope of seeing it but it was another year after my visit before the loco was complete.

I would treat it as a friendly request, not a hostile one, however I am clarifying what I can and can't say. Calmly await events.

I am sure you are big enough to know your rights etc, but if you haven't said anything libellous or defamatory I am not sure under what basis he thinks he can tell you what you can and can't say on here (or anywhere else for that matter).

Quite a few years ago when I worked on several EE loco’s at Kidderminster (including one that had recently gone mainline)
There was an interesting peice on where said EE machine would be based whilst being used by a now defunct charter operator in Railway Mag.
All of this was news to us, as we still hadn’t decided on a base for it at that time!

There are several pictures showing the work that had been done on 7027 whilst at the GCR in the Loco shed....but you need to go back to pages 30 - 42.

    Friendly note

As you have seen from Simon Martin's post this thread is read widely and comments made are not standing to the scrutiny . Can I remind members Posts should be both factual and should (in sporting parlance) play the ball , not the man . There are comments which are straying to the latter

Myself I am a little unclear about what hasn't stood up to scrutiny. The truth seems more obscure now than ever, and I am left unsure whether a wrong has been corrected or a viewpoint silenced.

There is an old saying, and it applied to all media not just Newpapers and its, the only thing you know is true is the date stated on said media everything else, can be anything, on a sliding scale, from 100 percent truthful, to totally made up,
Media informs, but what does it inform us of? and can we trust that whatever those sources have told them, is factually true?
My own father was a printer, and an uncle ran a local newspaper, his editor's most often used saying was the truth is what I decide it is. i think this is very true of any media,
