That's a pity, but probably how most people remember them.

How many diesels in preservation are green with no yellow warning panels? I'd love to see a "Deltic" mainline in that style but know I never will :(

It can't necessarily be ruled out. The rules have changed in the last few years, and yellow is no longer mandatory if a vehicle meets lighting requirements - though I'm not sure if it would be practically possible to do that with a Deltic.

A derogation may well be possible I’ve yet to see a steam loco with a yellow warning panel; at least on the main line.

Never been required for steam locos. I think the reason they were introduced in the 1960s was because the new fangled diesels and electrics were much quieter, so it was harder for workers on the track and others to hear them coming.

As 35B says they are no longer a requirement if suitable lighting is fitted. The Brighton Belle for example isn’t going to have yellow ends once restoration is complete.

    There certainly is, D9551.
Fits in well with the Class nickname. It’s the right sort of colour for a “Teddy Bear”;).

Now who would have expected Mr Stroudley to influence the colour scheme of a diesel loco? Has D9551 visited the Bluebell Rly to meet with those Terriers?
