The original overhaul I think replaced most of the sides . It sound like at the 2008-2012 one the whole copper inner firebox was replaced and I'm sure @LNER-B1-61264 can confirm that was indeed copper .

Copper boxes should do longer than 8-9 years running so something feels like it has gone awry

I think it may be better to let the two parties deal with who is to blame for the firebox cracks behind closed doors rather than speculate on here. Conscious that NYMR have put their point of view in the public domain with a recent article in Moorsline (claiming manufacturing defect rather than operational neglect), as is their right, but it is only one point of view.

It's all copper (inner firebox). It had a new tubeplate in the 2008 - 2012 overhaul. The only bit left of the previous firebox was the crownsheet.

Thank you. You may well be right. We'll see how the uptake of the new '6-12-64' scheme goes in the coming weeks and months and take stock. Always willing to adapt to changing circumstances, if some lower or intermediate amount per month is attractive then we'll definitely consider it.

Sure 60007 did an insurance claim for repairs required, after getting caught up in the same batch.

Yes there were a few like that. But it's not the material. The copper was all checked over at the time the new box was manufactured by LNWRH and found to be of the correct chemical composition.

Quick straw poll....open to the floor....big questions for all loco groups but open to suggestions.....

What could TBLT do to make it more attractive to join them?
    Here's the current offering: https://membermojo.co.uk/thompsonb1

Would could TBLT do to incentivise people to donate?

Can I ask where the cracking is situated in the firebox - star cracking round the stays, the laps, between the tubes etc etc.?

    Ta

PS I'm just interested and don't want to start any hares running

Extensive cracking in the following places; front tubeplate radius (left and right hand sides) & crown sheet radius (left and right hand side).

I see from your main page that you are a Trust and can recover gift aid, but there is nothing about that on your Membermojo page. Possibly because those memberships aren't gift-aidable (they come with incentives) but purely personally, I always want to see my money go further with GA. That incentivises far more than framed prints, entries into prize draws etc. Of course, we are all different, others may have a different view.

FWIW, the loco group I am most involved in - Beachy Head - raises about £100k per year and I understand a very rough break down is 1/3 monthly subscriptions; 1/3 sales stand and 1/3 component sponsorship. There are no "tiers" of membership, indeed I don't think there is really any kind of membership structure at all in the conventional sense (just a group of people making donations to the project) but the minimum monthly amount is £5 - though for admin reasons, at that level the Bluebell Railway Trust prefer it to be £15 per quarter.

I'd be staggered if anyone signed up for £64 per month - it's not that there aren't people around who can afford the best part of £1,000 per year, but that more likely that level might come through component sponsorship or specific discussed donation. Which comes back to incentives: I've given three figure sums to Beachy Head in the past, but generally my incentive is "wanting to see the loco completed quicker". I quite like component sponsorship in that regard, because when the loco is complete, I can take my turn on the footplate and know "I paid for the upper cab front sheet and fireman's steps", whereas the cost of raising that donation for the project was essentially zero - so every pound went into those bits of metal. I'm wary of any charity (including one very prominent new build loco) that have high costs of fundraising.

Thanks Tom. Component sponsorship is definitely part of the plan (we'll launch something on this in the new year).

Gift Aid - we have definitely been remiss in not claiming this over the years. Also on the urgent to-do list!

We have had two people sign up to the £64 per month thus far. But yeah we may need to find something between £12 per month and £64 per month. Shame that it wasn't 61015 'Duiker' or 61018 'Gnu' that was saved :0)

You can claim back for the last 4 years' worth if you're so inclined! :)
