2023 Events

It had moved to later in the year but interestingly as you say, its gone altogether now. Hopefully still on the cards as I enjoyed this year's one (which doubled up as my first ever visit to the GCR!)

Yes it's definitely not happening that weekend, just too much of a risk in case the bridge closure works overrun for any reason. Expecting it still to happen, probably sometime in August but once confirmed it will appear on the website.

30/9 - 1/10 - Mixed traffic gala
29/12 - 31/12 - Winter Warmer Service

Correct. When putting together the newsletter article I initially used the 4 day dates from the gala brochure, then had a correction back with the dates shown. I queried it and was told to use those dates.

I’ve since had it reconfirmed that both steam and diesel spring galas are three days as in the newsletters, and this is a change to that previously advertised.

 

Talyllyn Railway events confirmed so far:

May 14: Founders Day
July 1 - 2: Anything Goes Gala, Garden Railway Weekend and Beer Festival
July 22 - 23: Awdry Extravaganza
August 19: Race The Train
September 23 - 24: Heritage Weekend

We're also working on plans to celebrate the 40th Birthday of the two Baguley locomotives with at least one diesel running day.

 

Not good when people have booked accommodation Wednesday evening onwards based on dates in the brochures.

 

We’ve done the same, and we have a family birthday the Saturday so need to go that morning. Will probably travel on the normal services on the Thursday now and film only on the Friday to get best of both worlds.

Yeah, a post on Facebook a couple of months ago said they planned for there to be two steam galas in 2023 but dates were to be confirmed.

 

Yes, the May event is a postponement from October this year.

Just spotted the updated events page on the website:
Steam Gala - 24th to 26th March 2023
As it's 160 years-ish since the missing link, from Blandford to Templecombe, was opened on 31st August 1863 I wonder if an "S&DJtR" theme might be 'suitable' for this gala?
Road to Rail - 23rd to 25th June 2023 [opposite Norden Station]
With no Great Dorset Steam Fair in 2023 this might be Dorset's only event for traction engines, Showman's and rollers, etc. I believe the railway try and operate a two steam loco service as well as another loco on static (in steam) display next to the field.
Classic & Steam Vehicle Show - 8th to 10th September 2023 [adjacent to Harmans Cross Station]
Event organised by the Bournemouth & Poole Preservation Club. Enhanced railway timetable may well be in operation similar to previous years.
