He has Liked post #7979 as himself. Is it possible (whether or not allowed) to register on here with two different IDs?

It’s possible but not allowed and we have ways to identify anybody attempting to use separate identities on the forum as those who’ve tried before have found out….

In this case though I can say pretty confidently that hasn’t happened and this is a separate forum member.

If his profile is to be believed he’s a 77 year old Lancastrian living in Dorset who’s an active volunteer on a heritage railway (SR possibly?) Not much attempt at being anonymous as it should make him easily identifiable to anyone who knows him but are we really all that bothered?

Not sure if lancahsirelad was on the delayed train or dealing with people on the train? I presume the passengers were kept informed of the reason for the delay? Maybe the shunt could have been done this week when there are no services, but if volunteers have a day job might have been the only chance to do it?
    From "Swanning Around" December. https://srstaff.co.uk/swanningaround/swanningdec2422.pdf
looks like someone was appointed (but not named?).
"The new Trust Treasurer's first task has been an overall review of our financial position. He regards the cash position for Group (both Trust and Company) as sound and that although the year ahead is challenging given the current economic forecasts, by providing services that respond to customer need we have every prospect of trading well through the next year. Careful decisions will be needed to prioritise spend but the overall prospect is of positive optimism."

Can't believe he's a volunteer at Swanage. Surely nobody would critcize their colleagues openly on a public forum? Or am I being naive?

They might. If they felt sufficiently frustrated? We know nothing of the back story here, but at face value it isn’t great to delay passengers for 15 mins, and maybe this wasn’t the first time?

The "Trust Treasurer" in in fact the "Honorary Trust Treasurer" and is not the same as the SRC's Financial Director, I also find the other comments by the Trust Chairman to be rather a blue sky hopeful prophecy.
Yes I am a current volunteer on the SR and am concerned about the current management of the trust and the railway, but if this forum is only for positive news then in future I will desist saying it as I see it.

Generally I'd see raising internal railway issues on NatPres as very much a last resort, it can be very damaging (as WSR know), both to the railway and the individual. Forums are not the same as mess room chat, which it feels like this ought to be, once it's typed, anyone can see it forever.

    As I understand it:
    1) SRT. The former Honorary Trust Treasurer chose not to stand for re-election and thus there is a new incumbent in post.
    2) SRC. The company Finance Director resigned his Directorship. (I do not know if a new Director has been appointed to act as an FD or an existing Director has been appointed to that role).

The former Honorary Trust Treasurer and former Company Finance Director are one and the same person though these are completely separate roles being two legally separate organisations.

Anyone with any care etc etc for railway XX would not air dirty washing in the air on ABC internet forum.
Anyone who is upset about railway but still cares wont create sh1t but unfortunately walks/goes to another railway
Anyone who has a bone to pick/wants to create sh1t for railway XX and post on the public railway forums does not care about railway XX

I cannot agree with that. Staying silent has been shown time and time again not to be of long term benefit to an organisation. Rather than shooting “whistleblowers “ they should be be embraced and engaged, ideally before they feel the need to make a public noise. If that happens, the organisation ought first to ask itself why they felt the need.

Agreed, where they are whistleblowers. But I’m not clear that a board vacancy being unfilled represents whistleblowing. Whistleblowing implies breaking the chain of command to get information out that implies a failing by that chain of command.

In the context of a board vacancy, whistleblowing would imply that there is something that underpins that vacancy, where sharing the information more widely might help drive change.

The railway has social media policy that volunteers and staff might do well to read it . You cannot just spread muck about online and expect to get away with it, especially when you confirm you are an active volunteer.

In my view volunteers who do this on any railway are really not here for the long term and don’t last. People who truly care, ensure they are the ones who drive change. They don’t mud sling online.

You have an Honary treasurer to ensure continuity before the democratic process can take place to make the appointment.

I hate how the Swanage Railway is continually slagged off on this forum by not only bigots and keyboard warriors but now by someone who claims to be a volunteer! Say it to other volunteers and see how we react to you bringing down the railway we love publicly.

Hopefully you won’t be at the relaunch of 563 this year, you will probably moan that we didn’t pull the curtain away from 563’s numberplate on time.

This thread is slowly losing the plot. I thought it was supposed to be a discussion forum not a praise only forum. I would however agree that things that are not so positive could be put in a better way I.e positive criticism. E.g it was a shame the train was delayed by X mins due to ...., some extra communication about the delay would have helped keep the punters happier. I have actually been on another railway where there was a significant delay and the punters were actually calmed by the guard keeping them informed at what was going on with a bit of a running commentary.

When I was at Swanage for my birthday, our train was delayed by the special Flying Scotsman services but we were kept informed by staff, as we were stuffing our faces with afternoon tea we really didn't care
