A documentary filmed in 1964 "Looking at what happens to old trains and buses".

Yes it will be sad, but still worth watching.

Did anyone watch this? I just have and it was actually more upbeat than you'd think, with sections on the Middleton Railway and the Crich Tramway museum.

Who got the three Pullmans and 30928 back then? It didn't say much about that.

Wasn’t that the motor transport museum at Beaulieu? (if I’ve spelt that right?)

Currently watching two episodes of Fred Dibnah's Railway collection on the Yesterday channel. The first episode that was shown at 7.00pm featured Black Fives, 8F's and Jubilees and it also had an interesting interview with Peter Beet. He was talking about owning and operating 45690 Leander. He mentioned that when she had undertaken ML test runs they had her up to 90mph! That must have been some sight and sound. Did anyone witness these test runs?

There are lots of overused words out there! One of my personal bugbears is "stunning", another is "try and do...." rather than "try to do...."

    But maybe I'm just grumpy!

Overused words?......... You mean like Cool. I've heard it so many times now, but it still takes me aback when an excited, usually younger, member of the public come up on the loco to have a look in the cab on a hot summers day and immediately pronounces "Oh this is sooo Cool:cool:!" Clearly an expression that has nothing to do with temperature these days.:)

‘Awesome’ and ‘Epic’ are just two out of many that make me grind my teeth.

When I was waiting on a bridge for Scots Guardman last month a local came by walking the dog and we got into conversation. I told her what I was waiting for and, being a polite person she asked me what my 'favourite steam train is'. 'Flying Scotsman, I'll bet', she added.

I chose the words in my reply carefully as I said that actually Flying Scotsman was very nice, but it's only one amongst many.

Ever since 'cool' came back into regular over-use recently, when I started hearing it I couldn't help thinking it sounded so old-fashioned, rather than modern as its users seemed to think.

Being of a certain age, the term 'cool' in that respect reminded me of the early 60s/late 50s when it was last in fashion, used by people of a slightly older generation than me with too much grease on their hair, beatniks and stuff, as in 'that's so cool, man'. People my age at the time wouldn't be seen dead using it, along with that other old descriptive 'square' (for stuff that was the opposite of 'cool').

    I still can't use it.

I’d agree with that, as someone who loves big Stanier locomotives.
I’m more than happy to get up early for certain stuff built by RSH or in Newton-le -Willows.
60103? I wouldn’t open my curtains for it.
