I try but I don't claim to know everything.
KESR, I didn't realise was independent into BR days, I just assumed that it came under the SR because of Green rolling stock.

I apologise for my misunderstanding, but it did fool me.

The long and the short of it is there are many locos ,coaches and wagons on railways that they either were never on or perhaps shouldn't be on. They are there because either that's all they could get hold of at the time or there is a need of a bigger engine/ more coaches.
Long and the short of it is ' happy punters= money in the bank' . Ask my wife, she hasn't got a clue or cares what it is just as long as it looks nice, is clean to sit in and is cared for.
And yes I'm ex military so have worked in some real sh*t holes, polished some within a inch of its life and know how to work with people to get the best out of them while understanding and appreciating hard work put in by many for the good of the whole.

Then maybe you shouldn't make stupid statements about railways that you're not involved with.
You could try asking for information before insulting other people's hard work.

[OFF TOPIC]Quorn also. If it was up to me, I would take the roofs back off both of them. The environment under that roof is somewhat unpleasant in the summer; and having a pee in a thunderstorm, whilst not exactly a pleasant experience, would at least be authentic. Besides, there always was a roof over the cubicle, so it isn't as if there are no alternatives.[/OFF TOPIC]

(Also OT) - The Platform 5 conveniences at Horsted Keynes as well.

Maybe we need a thread (**) on "authentic heritage urination experiences".

    (**) No really, we don't ...

Tom, now you really are taking the you- know- what :) I'm not sure i want to read about peoples experiences whilst in any urinals, but i did think it strange that some had notices reminding men to check their dress when leaving, I mean, men in dresses ?

On the matter of toilets, do any KESR member here remember the portakabin staff toilets at Rolvenden? Despite valiant attempts to keep them clean, they were grim.

Not as grim as the ‘bucket and chuck it’ at Rolvenden when I joined in 1979. It was a Cleaner’s weekend job to empty it into a ditch, by which time it would be overflowing. We used the longest Shunter’s pole that we could find to carry it between two of us but it was still very difficult to keep the contents off us.

When I volunteered on the K&ESR the early 1970s there was an old chap called Tom (known as bogbrush) who volunteered to clean the toilets. He would say “I used to live in Africa. This is nothing compare to what I’ve seen”.

Not as grim as those I encountered at Fuxin loco shed in China.

Anyone been shed-bashing in India? Surely that's got to be the worst of the lot?

Dongsheng was grim. Seems staff didn’t bother to use the loos - assuming there were any - and just used the shed yard for all their toilet needs. A mate of mine did both India and China and reckoned India was worse.
