IIRC one of the 5700 panniers is top feed and one is back feed, but I can’t recall which is which. When overhauling one of the locos (7714?) Bridgnorth had to alter the feed on the boiler. Does this make sense? I’m happy to say my knowledge of these matters is limited

IIRC the boilers were swapped as follows -

3612’s boiler was fitted to 5764 which ran with that boiler during its last ticket.

7714 has the boiler which entered preservation with 5764, as you say it’s the top feed that’s the difference, hence the need to do the alterations during the overhaul.

Edit - Forgot to say it’s the Kerr Stuart built example (7714) which is back feed.

I rarely use cash these days, including in Wetherspoons, but there are exceptions: Teddy Grays sweet shop in Bewdley is still cash only, for example! But even when I'm paying by contactless, a price ticket of £10.05 still *feels* a fair bit more expensive than one of £9.95, certainly more than the actual 10p difference. The same would apply to SVR fares, though on the whole I prefer whole pound prices, which to be fair to the railway is what are generally charged.

Whole pound or 50p. There was one year in the past 10 when the day rover was £19.80 which meant a lot more change was required for TTI floats.

The last time I was back in Dudley I saw Teddy Gray as he was coming out the Servicemans club he was walking with a bit of a limp, so I asked him ‘Am yoo alright my alright ma mon? Yoo doh seem to clever’
He replied with ‘I bay to bad, buggered up at werk earlier day I? Dropped a rock on me foot’
‘Sounds Painful old shoe, what sort of rock was it?’
    Pineapple… :):)

Apologies to anyone who’s not from the West Midlands who doesn’t get this one but Teddy Gray is a traditional sweet manufacturer from Dudley, I used to walk past the factory on my way to College, you could always tell what was being made on certain mornings. :):)

The SVR have just announced £132-per-head Sunday lunch dining trains on two dates in both June & July this year. This is in partnership with Paisley Flour.

Nearly every comment on the facebook post is negative saying it is overpriced.

What has happened to the Limited & Venturer of old? They used to run weekly at sensible costs.

I did the Limited in 2018, and for four of us the total cost was £229.75 (£37.50 meal pp + £19.50 rover pp = £57 pp, plus a £1.75 transaction fee).

Things have gone up, but that is over double the price for the same product! I think people would be happy to pay £80-90, but £132 is a joke.

The WSR offer the Quantock Belle in partnership with Chef Sam le Roux and that is £75 per head. NYMR's Sunday lunch dining train is £77.50.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out. When the original post covid dining trains were ran I said then the price was a lot higher than the old pre covid pricing, and that I thought that was possibly a step too far with regards to pricing, along with concerns that the price increase then was to much and it wouldn’t sell well as a result. I was somewhat proved wrong when it actually sold well and extra dates were added due to demand. I think the same here though. Especially as it’s quite a significant increase. Last year two diners at a guaranteed table for two was £200, this year it’s increased by £104 which seems insane tbh.

Certainly in the local catchment area, you can go on the mainline with Vintage Trains on the Shakespeare Express for £190 with a guaranteed table for two so it’s over £100 cheaper with them although I also note it’s being advertised with day trippers from London in mind which they may need to attract given the cheaper local alternative. It’s a shame as I’ve had many good dining experiences at the railway over the years but they’ve now priced me out with the latest increase.

A table for two is £250 on the Bluebell. It's for four dates only, I wouldn't pay it but apparently it is selling, so some will.

Might I suggest that it is a different type of catchment area at the Bluebell.

For a significant birthday last weekend my wife and I had dinner at the Savoy. Three courses plus cocktails in one of Gordon Ramsey's restaurants with a view over the Thames and it was about £30 less than this offer at the SVR for Sunday lunch.

If it sells then fine. But I wouldn't pay for it.

I find it interesting to see that somebody at the SVR has been feeling the need to make an additional post to defend the pricing

The SVR is exchanging its reputation for rolling stock with laughing stock.

If the press get sight of the overwhelming public response of condemnation they will have a field day. The media people need to remove the FB announcement immediately before any more damage is done.

Possibly. Pre-pandemic the SVR had a regular, two-dining train offering priced to attract the 'average' diner. It's apparent that it's moved a limited number of trains, premium priced product. It's judging there's efficient monied people in the Worcestershire and Shropshire catchment - not poor areas - for that limited, premium, offering. I'm agnostic about it, but I can understand that those who enjoyed dining under the old model feel displaced as a result.

They haven’t it’s still on there attracting a lot of negative comments, what’s worse is whoever is doing the social media is replying and in all honesty making things worse with their responses. I praised the social media output recently as it is usually really good, but on this occasion they really need to shut up as the engagement is fueling the negativity and not helping at all.

The response on Facebook has been universally damning. The SVR’s social media team are doing their best to defend it…

Paisley Flour Corporate appears to be in liquidation, Paisley Lifestyle is dissolved, Paisley Flour Weddings survives, interesting review comments about pursuing small claims court by unhappy clients in reviews associated with the Paisley activity. Paisley Flour Events was recently renamed Passey Food.
    An interesting choice of partner.

whether you like it or not the movement is going in this direction . There is a perception that people want an "experience" and are willing to pay for it . Look at the dining prices on main line workings and especially those with saphos and they sell . That says there are also plenty with disposable income that is not impacted by the current inflationary pressures . It the SVR can meet and maintain the standards then there is probably a market for it

I've held for a long time and this is not SVR directly related that many will be priced out and pushed out of participation in the heritage movement as it needs to chase every £ it can . Money talks and those without can walk and there is very little any of us can do about it
