I am open to correction, but there is at least on signalling cabinet with an NSKT instrument at the London end of the down platform (and may be a matching one on the up platform). As designed, the section signal for the single line from Worgret to Norden is the junction signal, so the token must be obtained before leaving Wareham as the single line starts with the junction itself.

Thanks for the quick response (and to Woof). Thought with it being a no signaller set up it would be pretty basic. Obviously not as basic as on the Esk Valley line.

So the Corfe signalman is the key to all this. A very important role now

On a similar vain, and I am not sure if the move is still happening but if on Wednesday 0Y68 the move from Tonbridge Yard is still happening, and it was delayed (not impossible on the Weymouth Line) I assume with the Wareham service operating that day it would need to held at Brockenhurst or P4 at Bournemouth in the absence of anywhere else for it to go, as the Poole stopper tends to use the siding at Poole.

There is still an option to regulate at Poole even if the siding is occupied using the bidirectional Up Main to overtake a Down service, depending on what else is around, but as with all these things it depends on the circumstances and what is around at the time.

We travelled on Saturday, taking the 1304 from Wareham to Corfe Castle. It wasn't busy - 40 people max - but it was the time of the coronation. Corfe Castle was deserted as well! The DMU is a lovely thing, and we were able to sit behind the driver which was great. Was suprised to be issued a National Rail ticket for the journey from the SWR ticket office at Wareham. It seemed like most of Purbeck was deserted most of the weekend, so 40 seems quite good.

I am still not fully understanding how the branch signalling works.
Last night the two moves, the ECS that should have been a railtour, and the 47 generated 16 and 18 delay minutes for SWR services respectively. It appeared both movements spent around 20 minutes at Wareham, the 33 after the final DMU service and the 47 after the 33. At one point on the OTT map the 33 was in Wareham Station, the 444 at the signal behind and the 47 at the signal behind that.
So does the token need to be returned by road from Norden Gates to Wareham, or are there multiple tokens. If the latter why did both moves have to spend 20 minutes in Wareham Station?
Out of interest who will pay for those two lots of delay minutes GBRF and Freightliner or the SR? Or is it just bad planning by NR to have three branch moves so adjacent to each other?

In normal circumstances with two trains like that, the first train's token would be replaced in the machine at Norden Gates which would enable the second train's one to be released at Wareham, there being multiple tokens in the system (but obviously only the ability to obtain one at a time).

Sadly there was a failure of the token machine last night which necessitated the introduction of Pilot working (effectively an individual replacing the token, as you can only obtain one of them too!); in these circumstances it was necessary to transfer the Pilot by road.

Out of interest, whose token machines are they Nick? If ours then delay down to us, if NR then their problem, or operator error.....

Not sure if anyone can answer this in time as I've left it late...

If a through return ticket is purchased from a SWR mainline station through to Swanage, does it still count as a "Freedom of the line" rover for that day?

    Planning to visit tomorrow!

Hello, not sure if SWR can sell a Swanage Freedom ticket so play safe and buy a Freedom ticket separately when on the Swanage train and then you are covered for the day.

If you buy a Corfe Castle ticket from a SWR ticket office (online does not seem to work yet) then oblisously you would only get the DMU.
But it is not clear if you buy a Swanage ticket from a SWR ticket office if you can change at Corfe for a steam train for Swanage?. May not matter as it is still off peak season. Hopefully will be clarified before the peak season?.
If you want multiple steam trains as Brockenman says get a SWR ticket to Wareham and buy a rover ticket on the DMU or Corfe.

There is a kids for £1 offer over half term, which includes the Wareham services. Worth noting for anyone who fancies a day out with the children.
