Pure speculation on my part, but could it be the second of the ex-FR tank locos from Carnforth? Wishful thinking perhaps, but didn't the Furness Rly Trust have plans to restore it?

There was a photo on the net (copyrighted so probably best not to re-post it here) of the loco, on a low-loader, hauled by 2 traction engines and 'banked' by a third on its way to John Fowler's works at Bouth in Nov. 2021. I believe it is Askham Hall and belongs to Jack Dibnah who works there.
AFAIK the parts of the second F.R. loco are at the FRT's site on the Ribble Steam Railway and will be restored as an 0-4-0ST i.e. industrial guise.

You need to report a post (even your own) so that it gets flagged to the moderators, as they don't read every post.

It is Askham Hall, however it's very much still the property of the council who don't want to relinquish it. I believe that the intention is that it gets cosmetically tidied up and put on display, I think in Whitehaven.

It's rather a shame, these Avonsides seem to have done quite badly in preservation compared to other more common breeds - one is permanently stuffed and mounted in the SE (Streatham?), this one looks likely to suffer the same fate, another was broken up at Elsecar...

I agree with you that Avonsides have done badly in preservation. AE 1945/26 broken up at Elsecar "for spares" in 2012 was an 0-6-0ST as is the one preserved at Stratford station. A further 'preserved' 0-6-0ST 2008/30 Lord Camrose was scrapped by the Vale of Neath Rly. in 1990. Two of the smaller B3 class 0-6-0ST's AE 1569 & 1651 once 'preserved' by Middleton also bit the dust in the early 70's.

AE 2021/1928 (B6 0-6-0ST) survives at the RPSI museum at Whitehead. Currently on static display (wearing a terrible non authentic vivid green!), but was active up until about 10 years ago.

Presumably the last steam loco in the British isles to be used in construction (2005?), perhaps even the last loco used in non-preservation service?
