Thing is there is quite a lot of local competition for the Teifi. The Gwili is 16 miles away, there are the two in Llanelli only 25 miles away, VOR is only 33 miles away. Hardly a shortage of preserved railways in this part of the world.

What I actually said was the extension in question isn’t new. It would be interesting to see the progress since, that’s not being negative.

There are literally two things that people say about the TVR's location. It's too far from any other railways so nobody will go there, and it's too close to other railways so nobody will go there.

Personally I'd love to see Sgt.Murphy have a day out at the FR again when it is back in one piece.

Good idea. It's culturally important to pass on it's unfortunate nickname to a new generation.

Was it Sgt. Mamod? Or am I imagining that? A persistant ambition of mine is to persuade the FR to name a loco J.G.F. and tell people it stands for something weighty and noble.

Does anyone remember the mythical F.R. locomotive name? IIRC it was an accidental corruption of one of the Englands or something like that.

When the loco was around the FR I remember it being referred to as Smurf, though I was but a mere 15 year old in '93, so may have missed, or not been told, any of the more unfortunate versions...

That is an interesting photo I wonder how many of you recognised Mrs Pealling standing behind the loco, I wonder if Colin was about or is this his photo?

I wouldn't mind seeing this locos in Devon at some point to join AXE for the weekend.

A gathering of all the related locos would be lovely - There's a couple of Joffries and Haighs knocking about isn't there?

I can't comment on the parentage of the photo, I unceremoniously pinched it from the WHHR website and it unfortunately isn't credited: https://www.whr.co.uk/photo/sgt-murphy-minffordd/

I don't think it would have been Colin's after all he had already sold Stg Murphy by that time, but what you have there is is fact what Colin suggested we do with AXE and make that an 0-6-2T. Fortunately it never happen as too many members wanted to keep AXE as an 0-6-0, speaking of which there was at one time a suggestion to build a replica Decauville 0-6-0T to match AXE, that the trouble there are just too many good loco designs out there that have been lost.

I am not just saying this to scare anyone but, I did read (was it on here?) that at one point she was up for sale, she is a great size loco and to be honest if a new home was required I woud try my best to get her to the L&BR.

Thanks for the update Peter. I just hope that they can turn things around and get her back into steam, I have just done a bit of checking and I am surprised at how many steam locos have never been restored in the last 30+ years. But I guess this is another thread for somewhere else to be discussed at length.

The link is to a good FB video of the chassis being jacked. Screengrab below. It looks like it is going well.
