I believe some even lasted into the 1960s as I recall travelling in one in 1962 from Peterborough to Edinburgh

    As a teak, or liveried?

Gresley buffets, painted, ran until at least the end of the 70s [edit: 1977]

Anyway, just to get this thread back on track.
    I would presume 43106 and [possibly] 13268 will be running alongside 4930, 7714, 21c127 and 75069?
I do hope so, one last hurrah for 43106 and a welcome return for 13268.
Perhaps even two smaller shuttle engines to work alongside 7714?

Likely home fleet currently falls as - 7714, 21C127, 75069, 4930 and 43106. Both 2968 and 813 are pretty outside chances but they are chances.

The chances are 2968 will be running in post gala to hopefully be ready for Christmas.

What's happened to 7812? Also, I heard that Big Jim might be going but won't that be out of ticket by then? I know that they want an S160, anyway.

7812 should still be at the West Somerset I believe, and 5820 has been withdrawn.

Yes the EMF Facebook page confirmed that 7812 will not be back for the gala in a comment reply a few weeks ago.

That's what I thought because I was surprised that they didn't use it at the March gala. The person who told me may have been mixing it up with another S160. He confessed that he didn't know much about them.

Now this is going to be interesting, Vulcan is a hefty tank engine, anyone else think it could pull 7 coaches?

Sometimes it’s not all about the power though. The water capacity can be an issue too. The owners might have a specified weight limit that it can do, etc.

As far as pulling concerned ,7 coaches would be equal in weight to round about eight 27 ton iron ore tipplers, this and more would be done in the ironstone industry with 18inc cylinder loco's, on far steeper gradients than on the SVR daily .Whether it could keep time I would 'nt like to say. Water ?.Not knowing how much steam/water the vacuum brake takes ,and of course being non superheated, I think it would just about be possible with a clear run. If any one would risk it.
Please find attached a photo of one of the same class member at Port Talbot Works ,I took on 05/06/1956. Its 403 (later Victor) WB 2996/1951.

Agreed. Can it maintain a 25mph schedule? Does it have the water capacity? Can it maintain 16 miles of pulling that weight of train? All questions that we need to consider.
