Why did it need a test run to Pickering when it seems to have been running to/from Whitby over the weekend and since?

A speculative guess is that Grosmont-Whitby is relatively flat and doesn't strain the loco in the same way that climbing at 1in49 does?

You're assuming that it was a test for the loco. An unadvertised test run of steam between Grosmont and Pickering after a prolonged steam ban sounds an eminently sensible test ahead of advertising a reintroduction of steam hauled services on that section. If the test run causes issues on the line side it's much easier to roll back the service to diesel before you've announced the return of steam.

It didn't. It was raining quite heavily at the time and the powers that be decided it could run through to Pickering and back, which it did without incident. The sun's been shining all day and things are drying out again so not to be repeated today.

Apologies if posting in the wrong place-31466 running around at Pickering on June 27th. It looked very smart; quite strange to think that even relatively recent privatised liveries are now placed in heritage! Decent loading alighted.

I went to watch the new Mission Impossible Film today which is superb. Highly recommended. The train scenes are brilliantly handled with some of them filmed on the NYMR, although the villain is not too kind to the footplate crew. This behind the scenes video below contains a few shots and also footage of the "loco" plummeting into the quarry.

A couple of weeks ago I also went to see the excellent new Indiana Jones Film (also filmed on the NYMR) which featured the "Nazi 9F" and gold train. I noticed a Black Five in the background during the railway yard scene at the beginning. The 9F has a bit of a nasty end in the Film.

60007 was perhaps to be expected but 92214 is an interesting choice, especially as 92134 is already resident on the line and 92214 was also once a resident. It would be good to get a loco that hasn't visited before. We'll just have to wait patiently and see what unfolds.

61306 would be top of my wish list - followed by a Jubilee - but not one in black livery. Would be nice to have a GWR-free event, though!

I was wondering whether, given that it's the 50th anniversary Gala, they might be pushing for locos that have been past residents, in the same way the SVR did for their 40th anniversary Spring and Autumn Galas. What operable locos are there that have been historic residents at Grosmont that are no longer there?

I thought about it, but I think it was really only a resident in scrapyard condition - by the time it ran there it was based elsewhere, I think.
I've asterisked the ones I think are - not that many, really.
