Yes, shortly after posting this I saw a photo on Instagram showing the nameplates in place! TBH I don't mind the names, I have very fond memories of visiting the DSR as a 5 year old and bonding very strongly with the engines 'Goliath' and 'Trojan', but never once registering what the numbers were. And look where I am in relation to railways now! I do wonder how many other young children have bonded more strongly with steam trains because the engine that pulled them on a certain trip had a name, rather than just a number

Far more of the general population of Britain know certain LNER Pacifics by their names than know them by their numbers.

I know what you mean the missus asked me if I fancied a meal at 60074 this evening.
Bloody price they charged was like being robbed by 60080. Especially as I only went in for a 60039, the missus being the missus has more expensive taste so she went for a bit of 60041.
Back to work tomorrow all I wanted was a 60071 night out! ;):)
    I’ll get me coat…

A few months since this thread was last updated! The frames are now fully painted and components are being refitted. Work is also progressing on the machining of axleboxes.

The boiler has seen attention with removal of the foundation ring rivets. Some quilting has also been flattened back and drilling out of the copper stays in these areas is progressing.

Photo attached of the new smokebox and door trial fitted in the saddle.[IMG]

I must make a trip up there when it's in service.

4247 now has a full set of small tubes in it once again (last few put in after this pic). The process of expanding has begun![IMG]

For those who might be wondering, the hose going into the smokebox is for a compressed air powered blower.

What I'm wondering, is whether the heat from the fire causes any issues with the wagon steelwork.

We normally have a constant flow of water under the fire over the bed of the wagon. We have now steamed several boilers on this wagon following their overhaul.

Pleased to report that she successfully passed her steam test yesterday, 28/3/25. All efforts will now concentrate on readying the boiler for refitting into the frames. On the day of the boiler lift it is hoped to remove 46447's boiler out of her frames.
