As mentioned in the post above, 44932 has steamed past the Railcam @ Bolton-le-Sands this morning (no diesel on the rear either)

It was not raining - yes! There was even some intermittent sunshine - yes, again! I had planned to go to Oram's crossing, midway on the climb of Hoghton bank. This involves a walk of a few hundred yards between car and crossing. With a dodgy knee (again) I decided against the walk and settled on Brownhill and the climb away from the stop in Blackburn (where parking is only a few yards away). The sun, if out, shines on the east side of the train; I would be on the west. There were plenty of clouds moving across the sky on a moderate northwesterly breeze; sun in or sun out, it would be a lottery.

The journey from home typically takes 20 to 40 minutes, depending on traffic and today was bang in the middle (30mins). I arrived 30 mins before the train was due. Shortly afterwards a regular acquaintance arrived, we got out of our cars and chatted as we readied our cameras. A resident joined us and although certainly not a hard-nut follower of steam had many questions regarding steam operation on the main line, we did our best to answer.

RTT showed that the train had left Blackburn (5L) and had passed at Daisyfield Jn (4L). At this point another car drew up driven by an old train watching mate of mine (he was never one to arrive early). White exhaust was now visible down the track but as yet no sound. As the train grew nearer there were the first sounds of a black 5 hard at work, as she drew closer the sounds grew louder rising to a crescendo as she barked past, a feather at her safety valves. A load of 10 coaches, probably just about right. The return up Wilpshire should be loud.

13C, 4L & 33mph and very, very enjoyable. A few minutes later we were joined by my mate's son who had been videoing from the other side of the line (on the wall of the under bridge a little nearer to Blackburn). We chatted for at least half an hour before heading home; past times and more recent ones.

Sadly 44932 loco failed, front set of firebars melted into ashpan, duff batch sadly.
At least we have done 3/4 of the tour
