Pleased that it worked for you on your trips. Pleased that the Waverley turned out ok as well. Pleased that the NRM/Ian Riley is now more relaxed about the load that Flying Scotsman can haul without difficulty. Just surprised that a route like the S&C is seen as no greater a risk than, say, the GWML to take an opposite extreme.

I'm not so sure about that. I think I can hear it at around 1:18/1:19 on my video, just as the train has passed northbound.

Then again, we've just had a Jubilee, which is a much smaller loco, take 11 over the S&C.

The load limit for a Jubilee is 11 in normal conditions and it's 12 for a double chimney A3. But we were talking about what was previously a cautious approach to the load that Scotsman should take. That seems to have been relaxed and then there was the tricky route on a tricky day with what we are told was tricky coal. By all accounts the crew handled things well. Lucky that on this route they know all there needs to be known about the line and its challenges.

I suppose the steam on the Scarborough Spa on Thursday could stay at York till Sunday.

So it is but my comment was a suggestion nothing more .I suppose it could be double headed to York on Thursday from Carnforth with the lead engine detached for Sunday.Could always do this formation from 2008 .

A real plodding performance up the Long Drag this morning. Lost 17 minutes between Settle Junction and Ribblehead, enabling me to get four shots with ease. Lost even more time on the downhill section to Appleby. Bad coal again?

Not the best location wise as shooting direct into the sun
