I'm up at Loughborough this Saturday so will take some pictures of the stampings for you then. Unfortunately though I spent some considerable time cleaning the motion last month, I have no recollection of any of the stamps

I may be wrong but seem to recall reading somewhere a while back that the rods came off 45293.

No, I meant earlier than then, I'm sure I've seen one taken in the 70s with rods on

That last photo clearly shows all the crank pins aligned so the rods were taken off there and the engine hadn't been moved since.

You are correct, there is a picture on the www from 1966 which shows her with coupling rods ( and tender) plus another one taken in 1975 with the rods still intact.
It would seem that particular picture was taken at the carpark end of the scrapyard between 44901 and 45163, the location the three fives spent a lot of years in.
As LMS2968 states all the cranks are aligned so they were removed there. From memory a group on the Bluebell had acquired them (legally or illegally- never confirmed either way ) with the intention of modifying them for one of the restoration jobs at the time.

Didn't we buy them from the Bluebell group? I do remember going down there for some reason not that long after 45337 was brought out of Barry and was at Bury

PS a bit of my handiwork on the top photo with the sold painted on!

Still with coupling rods (those on 44901 being fluted), but both sans connecting rods.

If you're still going to check for stampings, it's the Connecting Rods I'm primarily interested in :).

Grabbed what I could, the LHS was set awkwardly. Looks like some of the original stampings were covered back when the rods were renewed - hopefully the photos are detailed enough for some investigation!
