    10 cubed (1,000) + 9 cubed (729) = 1729
    12 cubed (1728) + 1 cubed (1) - 1729.

Yes, that works out ok, although I think cubing the nmber 1 should not be allowed when deciding this particular lowest number.

But what number is James in Jamessquared? I've been trying to see which Bluebell loco that relates to - quite hard for me as I usually only work with BR SR numbers (other numbers are available), but . . . . .

I would have posted this just as a question, but before long someone here is going to get their wrist slapped by the mods as this thread goes walkabout! So I'll give the answer too.

Q Which number is James unsquared that is carried by a Bluebell loco, that, when James becomes Jamessquared is the BR SR number that was carried by a loco, one of which from the same class is resident at the Bluebell?

    A 178.

Bryan Stlll Wellbehaved - or a least trying to

Thanks guys, it is nice to be back. I'm now trying to balance my time between continuing my Short-eared Owl study, and in enjoying SR steam locos when and where I can fairly locally, as I work on putting my SR steam activities since 1961 into book form - memoirs of sort! Like my owl study and book, not a commercial venture, and when finished I only plan a very short print run, unlike my Short-eared Owl book where I had quite a large print run (by my standards) as there is worldwide interest in the species. For my steam memoirs I am using the same top designer who did a fabulous job on my owl book, and hope to use the same very long established printers and book binders who did my owl book.

Anyway, back on topic, still no news on which loco is planned to add for the Spa Valley winter steam up. 31806 would be great because of the 1962 photos I have of SR moguls 31823 and 31852 at/near Groombridge. And I 've just found two 61 year old negatives of what I think is 80149 at Groombridge! With 80078 and SR mogul 31806 there at the same time in 2024 would be amazing! Before what I hope is a very profitable Chrtistmas season for the Spa Railway (as I do for other heritage lines), I spent a number of days building up a stock of photos of 80078. A truly wonderful railway, with some fabulous people running it (as on the Bluebell where I've been catching up on photographing 80151 and 73082).

But, I'll be happy with whatever loco the Spa Valley Railway can add to their winter steam up roster - it may not be to my rather narrow focus - but I am sure it will please many others and help the profitability of the event.

Has this thread crossed wires with the MHR one or something? Seems to be the same few locos from Swanage being speculated in that thread and this one for some reason.

Nothing from Swanage. I'll announce it later, got to take 34072 for a test run first.

I hope the test goes well, and the Bulleid is back earning revenue for the Spa Valley Railway very soon.

Great, that was my intial thought back at #963, and it will be a great addition to the event. It seemed a possibility to me as it is at the K&ESR at present.

Many thanks for letting us know.

Oh, and I hope that 34072 was pased fit in the test today?

78019 is actually coming to us from the Great Central, it is going back there from KESR then back down South to Spa Valley. 78019 is at Tunbridge Wells West for most of February 2024.

34072 is back in traffic and working this Thursday to Sunday.

@Jonnie I think our owl loving friend is well aware that 78019 (or Hinton O’manor) is on its jolly’s darn sarf, and it’s just doing a bit of missionary work before it heads back to other side of the midlands. :)
