Pleased I wasn't on this one because of the dual motive power not the points failure. That said it seems that West Coast did a really good job of getting people back to their starting point. So credit where it is due.

Shireman should be happy though, as RTC have refunded everyone.

All it takes is a steam locomotive on the front with only carriages on the back to make us happy travellers.

    We've heard nothing from RTC.

As you mentioned earlier in this thread you wouldn’t travel in MK2 air con stock but obviously you did on Saturday LOL

    Of course we didn't.

Anyone who knows me knew what I meant so I didn't have to add to carriages 'rake of Mk1s or at worst early Mk2s with toplights and those wonderful things called panoramic windows'.

Unless Mk1s miraculously get exemptions in the next fortnight or so, there will be a 4+4 empty on the 17th March WCME.

Well then you’re just daft and throwing money away aren’t you.

I actually feel sorry for WCR. They can’t win. They try to get through this and run the train, and it’s not good enough. They literally can’t do right.

We're a bit interested as we've spent £920 on tickets for Saturday and a further £920 for the WCME on 17th February and won't travel in Air Con Mk2s. Bit of a dent in the pocket but such is life.
This is what you said but like you say there’s tickets going begging in March then sadly.

But, if refunds are not possible and the persons are certain they wouldn't enjoy the outing due to Mk2 Air Cons, then surely it's better to not spend any further money in travelling to the train, on any food/accomodation associated with such outing etc?

That’s a far point Jonathan, and I really don’t want to tell anyone how they should or what they should spend their cash on, it’s just for myself, my partner and several of our friends it’s a fair old bit of wedge to splash out on then decide to say at the last minute ‘it’s the wrong stock, stuff it I’m not going to travel’ if others can afford to chuck it away then I’m in no position to judge or knock them.

I suppose at the end of the day it’s down to what certain people want or expect from tours especially with the way things are . My Mrs certainly enjoyed the Scarborough Spa last July but she certainly wasn’t bothered what was on which end or what type of stock it was as long as it got us there and back .

Like West Coast, I believe Shireman's booking was based on the assumption the exemption would have run its course to the end of February. Unfortunately the rug has been pulled from underneath both parties.

If my interest was the same as Shireman's there's no way I would have travelled last Saturday. But a lot of other people who were booked (I would wager the vast majority) will have had a different interest in travelling.

Oh, no denying it's a fair wedge of money. But we risk falling into the trap of 'One man's waste is another man's treasure'. Some would say it's a lot of money just to spend to go out on a steam hauled train, essentially chucking it away. Likewise, some would say the cost of a season ticket to a football team falls into the same category etc. We all have our vices, our spends and our interests of which somebody else will deem us to be wasting money on.

Just purely, in this scenario, it very much reads as 'Cutting your losses' rather than trying to be outright wasteful.

I think a lot of people are missing the general fact we are lucky to have these trains run at all, no matter what stock! And that actually the enthusiast market won’t make up a huge percentage of the travellers.
