That particular incident happened 13 years ago, ladies and gents. The MNLPS has done its time on this and lessons have been learned some time ago.

Besides which, that was one and a half overhauls ago and the locomotive is currently on track to be back in service next year.

It is a pity to drag the distant past up when the success story of 35028 right now is the engineering and admin going on behind the scenes, quietly.

Well said Simon. Let’s finish with positive news, the tender is now completed mechanically and awaits the engine’s return

Reassembly has now commenced so it's on the way but a lot more work and expense before we see it at the head of the Belmond Pullman again.
This is the retubing progress up to yesterday.

MNLPS volunteers have continued to work with Leaky's to get the engine back in service. At the weekend we were wire brushing and painting the inside of the boiler cladding ready for refitting with one of our number making a lot of noise needle gunning the inside of the outer firebox sides. There is still a lot to do with most of the work unexpected so, as said before, all donations more than welcome. The three pictures show the outside of the boiler now looking a lot better having had a coat of protective paint, preparing the dome for painting and the firebox being needle gunned ready for the new inner firebox lower side to be welded in. On the right in the last picture you can see where one of the old syphons has been cut out. low res 3.jpg low res 1.jpg low res 2.jpg

The water space looks commendably clean.

    Full story here: https://35011gsn.co.uk/archive-articles/members-recolections/35011-on-the-somerset-and-dorset-1966/the-first-merchant-navy-on-the-s&d---anthony-wray.html

35011 was the first (and last) MN to run over the S&D, albeit only the southern part. They were normally banned because of their weight but in January 1966, it didn't matter!

Thankfully viewable for us non-faceache people too! Great to see the loco coming back together.

Yes, it was called Hele and Bradninch. Although originally called Hele when first opened in 1844, it was renamed in 1867. [BJ]
