Patrick is ok , just decided it was time to step off the preservation treadmill and enjoy some well deserved time away from it .

Having joined the Guarantee company board , the experience has been both fascinating and very positive . It is only when you become involved you start to really appreciate the challenges a heritage railway faces . What I've really appreciated is the one railway philosophy and that all the main bodies of the railway are working together , a lot of collaboration and attending each others board meetings.

There are a lot of challenges (as many heritage lines are in same boat) that will need to be navigated but the belief is more positive

It was clear to see from the outside Helen's reign was a terrible one. Arley tea room closing, photocharters being stopped, freeloading shareholders. Again, from the outside, Gus' appointment gives good vibes.

You are right, it’s happened to other railways when they bring in the men and women in suits who know nothing about the hard graft and passion that gave them the railway they are running. I know I wasn’t the only member who cancelled their membership. Hopefully Gus will be the SVR equivalent of Robin Coombes. From what I’ve seen morale among the volunteers appears to be back where it should be.

I am yet another member who did not renew their membership due to concern and dissatisfaction with the previous management style.
Gus has been a wonderful breath of fresh air to the SVR. Long may the new regime continue. Membership renewal on its way.

Well something for everyone's tastes today; 7812 opened the season for steam with a 9 coach train highlighted by a very unexpected burst of sun, the supporting cast was a Class 46 and a first generation DMU.
The Eardington horses have seen it all before.
Here's hoping the sun continues to shine on the tenure of the new GM .

Can anyway tell me what IFE, MFE and SFE trains are? They are in the timetables for Fridays. Some kind of trials or staff training runs? Thanks in advance.

Big news indeed, but I thought Vintage Trains already had an agreement in place?

Perhaps the change in agreements is linked with VT's recent announcement that they will be focussing their brand on GW mainline steam. 71000 fits in with that image about as well as 5593.

Didn't really see how 71000 fitted in with the limited amount of tours VT do, and that they have two of their own locomotives anyway which are advertised on all their trips.

I think they also have an agreement with 6880 for its mainline work.

Yeah but realistically that is a few years away, certainly not in 2023.

It's actually 3 steam locos and one diesel.
B is 2 steam and either one diesel plus the DMU or two diesels.
