Chapelon used an artist, the late Emile Andre Schefer, to assist with the external outline of the 240Ps. The pipework was hidden under the boiler cladding. The volume of the LP cylinders was increased by 10% and the cab was fixed to the boiler rather than the frames.

The latest Heritage Railway Magazine in it's report of the winter gala at the Battlefield Line (which 6880 Betton Grange was not ready in time to attend) also includes a sneaky note that (of course subject to successful completion in time) 6880 will be hauling her first public trains at Shackerstone on March 9&10

I nust comment if the Doncaster belle's/bellends built an A2/2 it might just be allowed on the Mainline longer than a P2.
    Thought it seems like wibble

Looks like 6880 won't be ready. I already know the East Somerset Railway have an alternative GWR 4-6-0 lined up for their gala on 16/17 March if Betton Grange isn't ready.

They were giving weekly updates on Facebook until the beginning of the year. Since then, nothing. Loco is apparently being painted, so you would've thought some sort of testing had taken place beforehand.

God I can't wait for March. Seeing 6880 steam for the first time, plus my sister getting married at the end of the month. How much better can it get?

So when Betton Grange steams, that just leaves us with 1014 "County of Glamorgan" to complete the GWR 4-6-0 set.

Someone please tell us more about that beast. It has a ridiculously long rigid wheelbase.

It was a William Dean experiment, designed to test some theories about large fireboxes as a prelude to the construction of the standard gauge No. 36. Sadly, when it emerged from the erecting shop it was unable to negotiate the curve onto the running line and instead drove itself straight onto the scrap line. The date I believe was very much at the beginning of April 1892 and I believe by that stage in his tenure, Dean was not a well man.

Several fora to which I subscribe feature a Caption Competition. If there was one here, the putative GWR 4-6-0 would be a natural....

On 6880 Society Facebook page there are 2 new posts. One shows the loco in the paint shop with paintwork having started on the smokebox and says Tyseley have ironed out anticipated final snags and will soon be ready for commissioning.

The 2nd post shows a picture fully painted tender, but it is still awaiting lining out, crests and a final varnish.
