Yes I did see that but yesterday when I looked the calendar page showing operating days seems not to align

    https://www.churnetvalleyrailway.co.uk/events/calendar/2024/04

Clicking on an Easter date takes you here, giving both timetables saying which dates are which. However the event page does not mention April 3 as a date for Mad Hatter.

    https://www.churnetvalleyrailway.co.uk/events/train-service.html#landing-content

If you go in via the event page for the Mad Hatters it gives a separate booking page with the 3 trains.

I am of course assuming you are not operating both sets of services at Easter as the first train is the same time for both timetables.

I hope to visit later in the year so Easter does not worry me, but the pages do not seem to line up. It confused me and I thought I was reasonably good at understanding HR websites, so it may confuse others I suspect.

Could you not use the bricks from Bradnop and Ipstones station platforms? Also the bricks in the existing locking room are in very good condition could you not reuse them as well? Victorian signal boxes were not built with concrete foundations so once you have removed the existing concrete slab you will only need enough for the concrete footings.

Not enough for what we need, as we need to build the locking room higher than original to see over what will be the new museum building on the DN (planning application is in).

Can’t reuse the current locking room bricks, as the mortar used will destroy the bricks when we come to demolish. Plus we have plans to simply re-roof it and re-purpose it - this removing one of the many non-period containers we have dotted around the Cheddleton site. Slowly but surely we’ll put the heritage back into the site.

Braveheart performed faultlessly today. From the front carriage the bark coming from the front as we made our way up the bank was wonderful. Later, after lunch, I got the video clip attached from Bradnop. It is mainly about the sound, recording the journey from Four Fields Crossing to Bradnop and above.

As a matter of interest, how often does the CVR run up to Ipstones?
IIRC, it used to be only rarely, perhaps just on gala days and suchlike . Is that still the case?

According to their website, all trips go up the bank to Ipstones now.
On a normal weekend there are 2 trips a day. 1030am off Froghall and 1330.

Is there any indication yet of which other days in May 4079 might be operating?

As much as I'd love to get to the steam gala, some big family and work commitments that weekend plus West Somerset steam gala and some 50s to chase around Cornish branch lines on the BLS charter will fill those days but I don't want to miss the Castle up to Ipstones so am determined to factor that into May somewhere. With Swanage and Severn Valley diesel galas plus GWR-filled line-up for the Bluebell branch line weekend as do-not-miss events for us (and Romney gala, Llangollen event and Glous Warcs steam gala all very tempting too), May is pretty packed so I'm really keen to plan ahead and make sure 4079 at the CVR features somewhere.

Interesting coverage of the leek to Stoke line, including the recent progress (or lack their of) on the new platforms as of feb/march 24

Seems like not much has progressed station wise for 3-6 months?

Perhaps wrongly I was hoping this would be complete may time.

The plan is to run it on all operating dates in May, subject to the usual availability etc etc

Thanks Chris, that's great to know - means I can plan to head to the CVR as well in the week when I'm going north for the SVR diesel gala anyway. Really looking forward to it, will be my first visit to the line.

Nice video! Never clicked that the CVR could turn locomotives now. Gutted 75014 isn't in use on 23rd March or I would've visited.

Is any of the Stoke line useable? Wasn't there a plan to run a trip up there a few years ago but Covid scuppered that? Or am I imagining it?

The was a plan to run a service to Endon several years ago, but I think issues with NR and/or the LC before the station prevented it.
