In conjunction with the "International Day of Happiness".
Although those that have already booked may regard it as the "International Day of Unhappiness"

Maybe the many folks that have paid the 'advanced price ticket' prices in good faith to commit up front support to the railway, should express their displeasure with the booking office when they pick up their tickets over the weekend!

Although the original cut off date for Advance Tickets was on the 18th, I have managed to purchase two tickets this morning (21st).

The Advance ticket price was originally £35 and 'On the Day' £40. The Advance price today is £20. <BJ>

UPDATE: According to the gala website, as of 9am, all ticket prices have returned to their original price. <BJ>

Yes I am one of those mugs who booked prior to the 'advanced discount cut off date'.

I have contacted the railway to express my annoyance. Not that I'm expecting a reply

Me too. Again not expecting a response but the more folks that do this, the more chance we have of getting something done.

From Southampton you can’t get to Swanage before 1045 via Wareham without a mega early start so will be in the 50 arriving at 1008 tomorrow all being well

Yes a bit of a con. In fact actually misleading as there was actually no cut off date.

Thanks. I see that one set is only 3 coaches today which may make things a bit cosy tomorrow. Can’t it be strengthened to 4 using the Bulleid brake?

Why was 1339 cancelled? I see both engines double heading 1600

The 15:00 was cancelled as well as I assume the 01 had only just got back off the double header as it would have been due to leave almost straight away.
The 16:00 has just left as you say as a double header which means the 16:45 will not be the U and the O1. Quite annoying as I had only popped in to home to get a cup of tea and a biscuit.
If this is now a revised timetable for the weekend I will have to replan my day on Sunday riding the trains..

C set workings cancelled for the day due to a carriage defect. Repairs underway, with hopefully a test run this evening and back to the booked workings tomorrow.

I had a response about the flash sale.

It was down to low advanced sales and the want to make money at all costs.

They then hid behind their t+cs.

Just shows the companies integrity and this will be the end of my support for them.

Sorry but one of the last companies I expected to be ripped off by was a heritage railway.

Not sure you have been "ripped off" anymore than two people sitting next to each other on a train or plane paying seriously different money for the same product. I just feel the timing was not the best.
However when I came back from photographing the double header my wife (just give me the dates of what you want to do) tells me because the forecast is bad tomorrow she is taking her friend out on Sunday. So that wrecks most of my riding Sunday. Had I not purchased an advance I would have just gone tomorrow, although even that is tempered by a call from my Dad just now of "tablets for me at Boots you need to collect tomorrow"

I had EXACTLY the same response which is very disappointing. I totally understand Swanage Railway's predicament, but this is not the way to treat customers who genuinely want to support them. Despite what they say, they still made the marketing decision which was unfair to people who trusted their original advertising and committed to purchasing advanced tickets. I will still make my 280 mile round trip tomorrow as no refunds are available, but I will certainly think twice before I do it again.
