[Apr 18, 2024] Severn Valley Railway 2024 Spring Steam Gala (Severn Valley Railway)

Yes we are hoping to turn 4930 the weekend of 13/14 April, 813 on one of its test runs and 75069 on the Friday of the event itself. Other than that everything should be the same

 

Following on from some news from our Wagon Group about the return of Toad Brake 68501, the goods train looks set to be an all GWR affair with 11 wagons making up the set for the weekend. 813 spends a lot of time on goods work over the weekend so we’ve tried to keep this an all GWR job. Lambton 29 also sees the goods briefly.

The final drafts of the gala documents were sent off late last week so now all being well we’ve got a cracking event to look forward to!

Indeed it is. It is on display, but no access to the cab or the dock it is sat in. The gates to said dock will be locked for obvious reasons!

 

I overheard a conversation between 2 drivers at the mini gala on Sunday. They said something along the lines of, "People actually still think that 6880 will be ready for the gala."

Well I mean we’ve been told it’s on schedule, and is on track to the plan agreed at the time we signed it for the gala. So it should be here if that carries on

 

Looking forward to the event. I'm looking to board the 7.56 on the Friday from bewdley. Looking at breakfast options. Is the buffet likely to be serving that early at the station?

 

The event plan doesn’t yet have that info in it. I can ask this week but that is something that will be a bit 50/50 as BDY buffet is volunteer run.

 

Totally get that. If I can put some money in the railways coffers by getting breakfast there then happy days, if not I'm sure they will get plenty anyway when I get beer and other food

 

The Venturer kitchen car is attached to the Bridgnorth set serving hot baps and so on.

Blue Peter was running yesterday. So I would not rule it out for the Steam Gala. The plan is to use to Gordon as a thunderbird in case of Blue Peter failing.
