Blizzard conditions on the S&C before Tangmere appeared but thankfully it cleared and the sun came out. Video to follow.

As young Whistle recommends a drop of WD40 deodorant will soon sort you out

Despite having a full can of WD40, Oswald stayed at home and left it to the hardier types.

I had hoped to watch Tangmere today as this is only her third trip north over the S&C. The first, 14 Feb 2004, piloted by 76079, was the 13 coach "The Valentine's Cumbrian Mountain Express". The second, 31 May 2008 was the 13 coach, "The Tyne Valley Steam Special" was unassisted. That's a fine composition with the bridge to the fore.

Hmm. I would have thought they would have had ample time to be ready 'on the dot' (given the three-quarters of an hour to couple on 45407 there). HOWEVER, that is only my surmise, as I wasn't there, so only the musings from an armchair. Perhaps the smokebox paint was still drying!;) Anyway, no harm done overall, obviously - I was just curious.

Judging by the stop board to the left, someone's taken extreme steps to ensure the photographer wasn't bowled!

Yes, I agree - could the two 'Fives' really not have been given it to do on their own, I wonder? Well within their capabilities and I bet the passengers would have appreciated the 'respect' for Lickey (and the sound). I don't know if there was a pathing issue requiring a high speed ascent, but...

You got a thoroughly deserved break in the weather at Selside and the light in the exhaust was stunning.

I imagine the other Black 5 had to take water, and possibly coal.

When was the last time steam went through Dumfries northbound?

I don't know a sensible way of researching that but 7/7/2001 with '45157' was one I found and checked on Six bells.

PS Looked at UK Steam, none of the GBs have done it. GB III was supposed to but was sent via Beattock.
