    The Global K &ESR will be a bit of a strange animal. Tenterden to Bodiam will be operated under the provisions of a Light Railway Order Transfer Act. All the land and stations sites were bought by the current railwayway company directly from BR with the exception of about 100 yards at the end of Tenterden head Shunt and the field that contains Rolvenden Carriage storage shed.
    200 yards west of Bodiam station the operation will switch to being operated by a transport and works Order that has more onerous requirements than the original railway. It probably initially at least makes more sense to keep them seperate . For (tottally random and imagined) instance if there is a requirement to alter the lighting for the level crossings that can be applied to the barriered crossings on the RVR without effecting the gated crossing at Wittersham Rd.
    The operation of trains will be carried out throughout by the K&ESR under the requirements of ROGS.

    Hi all, long term lurker.

    I can see no where on KESR’s website that gives a proper timetable, or even which services are steam or diesel on a green timetable?

    Has the KESR gone totally for familys only and ignoring any actual detail or enthusiasts?

    Hmm, I see what you mean. I don't think we publish a full timetable for the web site. I can't remember if the timetable leaflet still carries it.

    In theory, on a one train day, all services should be steam. On a green timetable, trains 1, 3 and 5 SHOULD be steam, with the others being diesel. There is a caveat to that, though. On some occasions, we use one of our larger diesels on the A set, and the B set might be a Terrier (or similar) on the Victorian set. As a result, it's impossible to set one rule that applies for all those dates.

    We, like every other railway, are at the mercies of engineering that is 70+ years old, and as such, we can't guarantee that the booked traction will appear. We used to provide a loco roster, but people complained if they travelled to view a particular engine, and it was unavailable at very short notice. It would seem that we are damned if we do, and damned if we don't!

    Totally understandable from a roster POV, but when services are an hour apart minimum, if we turn up and its diesel, then an hour or more wait for the steam, thats one unhappy family to occupy.

    Any ideas what “should” be out this Saturday? Albeit subject to usual last minute bla bla bla

    For those keeping up with these things, there was fresh news from Rolvenden yesterday. Knowle is back down on it's wheels, although it's a 2-2-2 at present. It was due to have it's cold boiler inspection today. Some parts being made externally were delayed, but it is still hoped that Knowle will be running at the 50th gala. Hastings was due to have it's in-steam boiler test today, and then needs some paperwork completing on the recent modifications. Overhaul work proceeds on 4253 and 30065, the latter of which is due a steam test soon. Last seen, bits of 76017 were in the shed, receiving attention. It is a small team (4253 excepted) trying to achieve miracles, while still having to drain the swamp!

    Nice to see the small engines on their way back! Are Hastings' modifications intended to improve performance, or just to fix some issues?

    The modifications are intended to improve lubrication and brake performance, as I understand it.

    I have asked them for a timetable but all I got was 1030 and every 45 minutes. Impossible if I need to book train tickets and work out bus connections so I won’t bother

    Sadly a lack of information as to what is likely to be working is also keeping me away from what should be a third 'local' heritage steam railway that I would visit from time to time.

    Well, although we don't have a loco roster, we do have staff rosters. Having looked at that, it looks like it is an all steam weekend. I presume that that means the two Austerity tanks plus either 76017 or Hastings.

    Thank-you, I managed to find the timetable but from that couldn't see whether the services would be steam, diesel or DMU.

    I notice from Facebook Hastings has been out on test today so subject to that I'd imagine she could now be one of the locos taking part!
