You're getting Fenchurch, FFS! What more do you want? :)

But being more serious - surely it is better for the SVR to have two bites of the enthusiast cherry? In other words, the gala is presumably seen as good value based on what is advertised. And then with any luck you can have some running with 60532 and attract a second crowd?

    Tom

Indeed - which is why the Grange lot offering 6880 to every gala in the spring seemed a bit odd. As a new loco it should be enough of an attraction in its own right; the SVR gala is busy enough as it is without launching a brand new (ish ;)) loco at the event.

Since when has Fenchurch had an EE power unit? :)
I totally get where your coming from, please re read my post #1078 :)
I will say this though as someone who grew up with the SVR on the doorstep, you can forget what it has to offer, and not necessarily at an event for those of us who have an interest in railways.

I am not attending so little interest to me either way, but I have found all the "grief" expressed by folks over this gala compared to others either here previous years, or elsewhere strange. I can understand the which way will the locos face, will they operate every day questions but as you say Tom this loco was never down as part of the gala. If it is on display then a bit of a bonus for those that go I would have thought.
Slightly off topic for this thread but the angst over the "will it, won't it, make it Grange" bizarre. It no showed at two previous events with very little other than its disappointing, suddenly it is the end of the world.

Quite a few people expressed surprise at the number of fires given recent weather but generally it was dead bracken and the like from last year which had dried out in the warm sun on Saturday and Sunday.

Latest news thanks to Locomotive Services Group. <BJ>

''When Michael Farmer took over the Paintshop in October 2023, he felt he had big shoes to fill following Paul and Steve (our now retired Painters). Prior to being promoted Michael was their Apprentice for 4 years so had plenty of time to learn the ropes. He was told his first major steam locomotive job would be Blue Peter 60532 so no light task. Michael was tasked with organising the job (ordering equipment and consumables, preparing time frames of when different paint processes were to occur and general paint shop running), leading the team and completing the full repaint. In his paint team he had contractor Phil Anderson (Signwriter and Painter) and during the prep stages they were also joined by Rangsan Nawin (LNWRH Coach Department) who sanded the tender and painted the underframe black. First jobs were sanding, spot filling and undercoat work. This was completed in the first week of the job. Once the Locomotive had a full undercoat applied, Michael was made aware that Blue Peter was last seen on the mainline 22 years ago, making him the grand age of 2 at the time! They then applied 2 coats of Gloss BR Express Blue to the locomotive and tender. Special mention to the number of rivets in the tender, a painter's worst nightmare, but not impossible. Signwriting was next, adding boiler band lines, cab side work (numbers, letters, and lines), front buffer beam lettering, running boards and Tender linings. Waterside transfers and safety stickers were then applied to the tender sides and loco sides. These transfers came in two halves, so they measured the centre lines and points of each half, lined them up and then applied them. Quite a challenge but they got them on. To finish the job off they applied 2 layers of varnish all over Blue Peter and its tender. As a finishing touch, Michael has redone the name plates, numbers and shed code with black backing, white picked out numbers and edging, and a healthy varnish to seal it all in and make it shine for the smoke box door and wind deflectors.

We would like to congratulate Michael on completing such an important and significant project. He has taken on the responsibility of such a grand task, completed it in a timely manner and to a very high standard like a true professional. We think that Blue Peter looks resplendent now and look forward to being able to show it off on our upcoming operations!''
