With that train length I don't know why the trip isn't just double headed as that's in principle what will happen.

Because those that have paid get to see a steam loco on the front, and in this era probably get a picture for Instagram or Facebook if they want.

Was at Bayston Hill for this, the substitution for the B1 was a real groan inducer.............. presuming that it was a fail late-on at Shrewsbury.

    Cheerz,

Likewise at Church Stretton in much sunnier conditions than for the smoky progress north at Woofferton - ah well !

Looking forward to my trip on The English Riviera Express tomorrow.

40013 will be hauling the diesel section, which I regard as a bonus! Much better than a 47. I was assuming the steam would be 61306, but given it failed yesterday then it's probably unlikely now. I'm not sure what other LSL steam locos are currently at Bishop's Lydeard, so I'll just have to see what turns up at Taunton tomorrow.

61306 is booked to move from Coton Hill to Bishops Lydeard later today. It was only a broken spring.

I'm sure LSL have the appropriate operational reasons for operating the train, they way they have.

From where I'm sat rather have got home at a reasonable time , cause we took 47828.
Instead of waiting hours for a replacement for 61306.

It did ! Moving rather quicker than the schedule timed at 33mph said it would.

Of course they had. My point was that the train was overloaded for the B1 plus diesel so it would have been a dual motive power trip anyway and could have been double headed. It's actually operationally safer that way and I can think of one TOC that requires double heading if both motive power sources are working.
There was no chance of waiting for a steam replacement so in this case the extra motive power was a bonus. But you surely don't think that this is a good thing on every trip 'just in case'?

My shot of Mayflower yesterday at Stokesay and today returning with support coach at Leominster, both times in seeming good health.
And today's Carlisle - Paignton " Midlands Pullman" also at Leominster this morning. The Sixteenth Century White Lion Inn is the backdrop at Leominster. Stokesay-2024-05-30-25.jpg LeominsterStation-2024-05-31-15.jpg
