My assumption is that, as with the original thinking behind KL, it leaves the original route clear (-ish, allowing for the need to dig back down again afterwards) for future expansion southwards.

Sadly, as with the Sec 73 plans, I have yet to make contact with anyone who will admit to having been consulted during the design phase, so much of the 'thinking' behind this plan remains a mystery....:-(

    Nice graphics though :)

Anyone heard any feedback yet from the recent public meetings?

No feedback it would seem, but 'Steam Railway' came this morning with the following:

'The L&BR told Steam Railway that, while it has suffered from internal disputes in recent times, these have since been resolved with new Trustees coming on board and consensus being achieved, with the railway now hoping to move into a more positive future. The trust has initiated a more open approach to sharing information with members and beyond, including its new 'Steam on the Moor' video series on YouTube taking a look behind many aspects of the operation - a move which it hopes will enable it to consign its troubles to the past.'

If that is the case I had not noticed, except the General Manager's videos. Why is it the first I have heard of the ceremony tomorrow at Woody Bay (on the next page of Steam Railway) - with Newnes's Great Nephew renaming Charles Wytock as Sir George Newnes ?

I had to telephone Woody Bay Station to find out what time this ceremony is taking place - 1.40pm I was told by the helpful lady who answered the phone.

    >>>The trust has initiated a more open approach to sharing information with members and beyond...

Maybe , but...apart from the excellent videos from the GM (which one might argue is a CIC initiative rather than a Trust one), I have yet to see or hear any sign of that.

Silence so far about the recent meetings at Parracombe. Nothing in the website News section until the item about 'London Jack' today. Nothing in either the Trust Notices or the Railway Blog.

I wonder when the next Newsletter is due ?

The Steam on the Moor series of videos is a Trust initiative, led by one of the new Trustees.

The information stream has not noticeably increased so far, at least from my viewpoint. As to whether ta new era has been ushered in, I reserve judgement.

But the closing credit states "©Lynton & Barnstaple Railway Trust 2024. Is that not clear enough?

    Michael,

I understand that the naming ceremony has been organised primarily by the Bagnall 2819 group as it is their loco that is being named - it is not intended as a public event per se, hence the lack of a "Trust Notice" about it. I suspect that photos of the event will make it onto the website soon however.

The railway will be open tomorrow so anyone who wishes is, of course, welcome to attend.

Since the CIC is controlled by the Trust (which owns over 75% of the shares) distinguishing which PR initiative belongs to one or the other is of little consequence to my mind.

I would admit to not getting that far - I'm interested in the content not the credits :)

Fair enough - but it is a strange look to make a specific argument about the credits and then claim not to be interested in them!

I'm not sure that is a valid argument. The CIC is the operating arm of the Trust, true, and the CIC employs the GM, but who is to say he is making these videos as part of his employment? He is supporting and publicising the L&B, and that is the main thing. I'm looking forward to his visits to Bratton Fleming and Snapper as part of this series.

Until such time as any new trustee becomes a threat to those who are only staying in office for the sake of the power it brings them, then watch as any new trustee ends up being pushed out by the old guard.

Point taken, and I did attend at Woody Bay Station today and watched the proceedings from the car park with short speeches in celebration of the new nameplates and the engine coming into service on its first public train. The locomotive with its new boiler and overhaul provided by its shareholders should give a lengthy and useful service to the railway. I also had a very interesting chat with Christopher Newnes on the history of his Great Uncle and was told how his yacht 'The Albion' went to Antarctica where a headland is named after him. It is very appropriate we should honour the man without whose drive and financial contribution (and that of his wealthy friends) the railway would not have been built. It is also clear it would probably have closed had he not bailed it out in its early years when it did not have the money to pay debenture interest which would have led to some of them not renewing their holdings. The railway was never able to repay him for these loans and he accepted more debentures instead.

That's hitting the nail right on the head, in my opinion there are still a couple of trustee's and a couple of CIC directors whose show of blatant arrogance and contempt of the membership over the last few years let alone downright rudeness towards members as well still remain in 'power', only when they are relieved of their positions will any 'issues' be resolved

I belive , unless anything changes that Axe won't be running until the gala and Sunday evening it will take its bow and that will be it ,

It MAY be used during this year's remembrance day but it depends how quickly it goes in for overall really.

It shouldn't be out too long , it's very mechanically sound considering it's done 13 (?) Years
