Does not mean the network is the same now of course.
Not too long ago the U was able to leave Swanage, not any more it seems just to name one example.

I mean it maybe that it fitted previously, but it now doesn’t having been remeasured, etc. That has been a thing in the past and could be now.

Have to keep watching this space I guess, but based on what I’ve been told previously it’s a no go

That is the issue as well we have quite a fast changing network. NR did a load of work on a few platforms for stuff at work, and now other bits don’t fit through!

For access reasons platforms are moving as close as modern trains allow and the height is sometimes also being tweaked.

That does rather compromise steam clearances especially GWR.

Yeah frustrating for the enthusiast, but good for me at work! Definitely helping the regular punter acces trains much easier.

Is that not because it hasn't been gauged recently? There is a difference between being out of gauge and being denied because the most recent gauging paper work has lapsed. With an ever changing railway gauging paper work has to be up to date just as all the rest of access to the network paperwork has to be. Until it has been gauged again you just don't know if it will fit or not.

60532 'Blue Peter' out on the Crewe, Chester , Shrewsbury circuit today & tomorrow.
Today's stock was quite a mixture, with two 20's on the back.

Isn't part of the recertification for the ML a detailed electronic analysis of the dimension of the loco. A scan, so to speak? And that is needed before it goes anywhere. So assuming that has been done then it's a paper/computer desktop exercise to check any route?

But maybe that's not what happens.

Not sure it’s a scan exactly, but dimensions are provided and can be checked off against the NR measurements.

Trouble is like with a lot of things the measurements from NR vary over time. Old Hill Tunnel, must have had so many changes as to what can and can’t go in the last 10 years!

I do not know Peter but last year when it looked like it might finally happen at last with the Weymouth's the story (maybe untrue) was it was out of gauge at a number of places between Weymouth and Southampton. I do not know if the paperwork was out of date or not, but it was steamed and undertook what I assumed to be a LE test run on the afternoon of day before the first DCE last year. The fact it was never on the cards for the DCE this year (before the Mk2 issue made it ineligible ) made me think, perhaps incorrectly that it sort of confirmed it.

If yesterday's test run was successful then there may be no need for a second run (trying to think positive). <BJ>

ECS for tomorrow's Saphos trip from Bournemouth not going well. Should be a few minutes from Wareham (due 14:15) having come via Reading West, currently heading west along GWML and shown on OTT maps in the Chippenham area. Assume going to Westbury and then Salisbury Eastleigh?
