Indeed so, though regrettable, a certain small percentage are as likely to become the brain-dead numpties who smash things. Please keep in mind that my (admittedly jaundiced) views on the rowdier element amongst the half-price ticket generation could, at a push, be taken as encouragement to restore more cattle wagons and horse boxes! :Meh:

..... and I might be joking anyway, or just need a nice, hot cuppa .... yes, that seems more likely. :)

On the other end of the spectrum, and it is a unique situation, I know of one railway that preferred the use of tank engines on their Santa Specials, which were the longest trains that they ran all year. Why? So that all the coaches could fit on the platform at the southern terminus, whilst enabling the cab of the engine to still be positioned just between the platform and the bridge a few metres away.

That said, this was a few years ago now, and my memory might have betrayed me for all I know, and I wasn't in anything like a position of authority on said railway, so don't take me as gospel...

I’m just giving this thread a bump in case there is any information out there above and beyond my very quick internet search regarding the future of this loco.

    Current condition?
    Pics?
    Any appeals running?

    thx

The loco only is still at Buckfastleigh I understand. The tender is still running behind 2807 at the GWSR

'Nurtured back to life'. So much more classy than the catch-all 'restored'.

Not exactly new though is it? It has been on YouTube for almost a year now. Has there been a progress report since then?

It is a loco that I'm quite fond of as I first saw it as the yard pilot at Evercreech Junction in April '65 just days after my 14th birthday and not long before it was withdrawn. Pity I only got such a rubbish picture of it. 65-4-6 3205 Evercreech Jc copy.jpg

I photographed it when it arrived on the Severn Valley Railway all those years ago:
