Seriously, after all the disappointments that's great to see. I'll bet there's a fair bit of relief at NVR, they've been very patient.

There are photos on Facebook of the loco being worked on in the yard at Wansford, still split apart from the tender, with support crew working on top of the boiler looking at the regulator. First trips in less that 4 days...

Tornado has been turned round, quite literally. Was facing west when unloaded, is now facing east.

You've basically got one shot at the regulator repair working then! If it had a warming fire this afternoon, it is likely to be the back end of Wednesday before you are in steam and can properly test and that might be pushing it. If it works - good. If not it is likely to be late Friday before the loco has cooled enough to be dismantled sufficiently to re-investigate, at which point it is too late to make a repair and then warm through enough for the weekend ...
    Well, quite ...

Yup. We (the Wagon Group) decided not to keep rescheduling our photo charter after the second postponement...

The argument was, that whilst she had steamed by the august bank holiday weekend (I think), she hadn't accumulated enough miles, so another 6 weeks would have been enough to run in and cure any faults that came up...

When you consider how many driver experience and dining/fish and chip and normal advanced tickets sales have been sold, cancelling, rather than kicking the can down the road again, becomes an expensive decision to make.

But to paraphrase Oscar Wilde, to lose an engine once is careless, to lose the same engine 3 more times, and on the 4th time, have it delivered 56 hours before it's first revenue earning trips, still without a regulator fully fitted...

It makes the movement of the Easter steaming dates to the May bank holiday weekend look optimistic.

I was planning to go to Wansford today to have a look - but frankly I have better (and more time-critical) things to be doing.

I'm intrigued: I thought the Driver Experience days were run without rolling stock, yet today I've seen 60163 hauling the Continental stock?
