With its exhaust direction momentarily defying the south-easterly storm and masking the train, 45407 at Alnmouth this morning. 45407-(26)-fbook.jpg

RRT is projecting no water stop at Rugby and a very early arrival back at Euston. Possibly diesel hauled on the return journey?

Timed at 95mph would suggest the 5 is coming off the train but I don't see any onward movement as yet.

The ECS is returning to Acton Lane after arriving at Euston so guess they would rather 44871 stay at Rugby. There is a 5Z83 from Rugby to Southall at 9:21 on Monday https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:U36566/2024-11-25/detailed

There's a light engine coming to Rugby from Southall,I think the departure time will revert back to 18.50.I t will take more than a minute or two to juggle about.

On a day when Avanti and TPE both threw in the towel, WCR showed the modern railway how it is done by running 3 trains into Edinburgh. Great job!

I am a bit confused there were a few Avanti cancellations but TPE seems to be running to EDI according to RTT. Although I accept they went with the modern railways default of "Do Not Travel" at the hint of anything remotely away from the normal.
Of course steam and diesel (XC Voyagers apart) cope better with bad weather than stuff on electrikery.

Let’s be honest and actually look at the situation with facts rather than “It’s just standard to cancel everything”….

A do not travel warning was issued North of Carlisle because of the severe weather expected, which materialised. This is for passenger safety, as much as staff safety, but also because whatever does run can’t run at full speed, and as such not as many trains can run in that time space.

At about 1400 the WCML north of Preston was shut due to severe flooding at Oxenholme.

Nobody throws in the towel. Railtours included. Network Rail will let trains run as best they can, and tbf two charters were up the ECML where the weather was “better” in the morning than the WCML.

47848 has now replaced 44871 and departed a couple of minutes late (waiting for a late-running LNR train) 44871 and support coach are in the sidings where 86259 normally lives.

I hope the passengers had some heating in those Mk2s.

The alternative is the Northern method which is to suggest that some trains are running on their App when it later transpires that the coast line looked like this (not my photo I add)

Credit where credits due NR seem to think they'll have it open again tomorrow, albeit I'm not sure what effect the present torrential rain may have on that aspiration...

And to be fair, the damage in that picture is a lot less than that at Brienz

I was there a month before the storm that did the damage, including wandering round the village of Brienz.
