Severn Valley Winter Gala 4th & 5th January 2025

I've got this dreaded feeling the railway is going to scrap the evening/night run with the Manor due to the forecast, I hope I'm wrong !

 

Why would we scrap it? Because of a bit of snow/ sleet/ rain?

 

Does anyone know which way the locos are facing?

 

There is now an orange weather warning, which I suspect is making organisers a little nervous...

Are people seeing a different forecast to me? Nothing on the BBC for KR or BH suggests we’d not run.

We took then decision back in the Gala Meeting in Sept to not run locals, which meant everything was pretty much mainline/regular running lines, meaning the risk of frozen yard points and so on doesn’t become a big issue. Other than that I don’t think there’s anything to worry about.

 

Everything faces Kidderminster except 1450/7714.

7714 will turn on Saturday AM to face Bridgnorth.

 

But the actual forecast isn't that bad.

 

Current forecast from the Met Office is heavy snow in Kidderminster from about 7pm to Midnight on Saturday. Doesn't necessarily mean it will cause a problem.

Being a local I wouldn't be at all surprised if it misses Kiddy as seems to be normal.

 

Forecasts I’ve read suggest sleet/snow from 7pm Saturday evening turning to rain as Sunday progresses, with it being 7-8 degrees by Sunday afternoon.

Think it's going to be a busy one. 1100 departure from Kidderminster full and standing 10min before departure!

 

Pre-booked numbers today are quite good, less tomorrow.

 

7714 is definitely doing all the work today while 1450 is looking pretty. Very busy, but that's to be expected of a SVR gala.

 

Some sleet at the moment but not much sticking.

 

Spent a very enjoyable morning at the Severn Valley Railway today, plenty of trains and a fine selection of locomotives pulling them; as mentioned by Wagoniester above, it was very busy and all of the trains looked well loaded.

Under a wintry sun, 7714 & 1420 double-head a train into Highley Station northbound.
