RSH “Moorbarrow” will also be available so the event will have up to 4 engines depending on the completion of “Haulwen’s” overhaul.

the event will provide the opportunity to double head two GWR locos - not seen in this parish for 37 years!

    regards

    Matt

I am gutted as I won't be able to attend because I will be in Cardiff for the weekend for wales v england, But what a fantastic gala this sounds to be!

What does the 6 for 60 stand for? Will there be 6 locos if the Ford makes a come back maybe?

I hope its a very popular and successful event.

    Cheers,
    Tom

I see there's a timetable and roster on the website, minus Haulwen - just checking to what extent that's a provisional roster to be amended on Haulwen being ready, or has it been effectively ruled out at this stage? Thanks

If you go on the webpage it lists the 6 highlights of the event - things like the return to traffic of Haulwen and one of their carriages, the last gala of 6430 before it bows out for overhaul etc.

Shame to hear that Haulwen is now not expected to make it, but I dare say the visit of a Manor will more than compensate!

As confirmed elsewhere Moorbarrow will be visiting the EVR so will now not be running at this event. Haulwen is also coming on apace but with so little time left for running in/testing etc it will be left to the three GWR engines to operate the event now.

Great day yesterday at the Gwili, the morning and lunchtime sunshine was warm and made for a pleasant start... 7812 looked right at home!

Thanks to all involved, it really was a pleasure to see an engine of a type many have wanted to see grace this railway once more, it is always special when engines return to their class' old stomping ground, magical!

Well attended event with the trains busy and I enjoyed riding the late runs!

A couple from a pleasant hour at Bronwydd Arms at https://www.flickr.com/photos/gazra13/with/54394369324/,

Pity that when we attempted to pop into Abergwili Junction for some lunch and a browse around any stalls or shops, we were told in no uncertain terms that we were not allowed to be there.
I understand that most money comes from ticket sales, but secondary spend should still matter!
(I also understand that this may have been the marketing agency, rather than the railway making this decision)

It's the same at galas on most lines, tbf. Platform tickets don't exist, and access is by travel ticket only. We used to allow platform tickets at ours, but the amount of people we then found travelling on platform tickets was staggering. Also, platform tickets really don't contribute to the cost of putting an event on. While it may be regrettable, it's perfectly understandable from a business standpoint.

As I understand, Fox and Edwards essentially hired the railway and put this event on so it is completely understandable that they would want to maximise their income by encouraging ticket sales over platform tickets. I was at Bronwydd on Saturday with my steam engine and every train that came through was packed and there were plenty of people milling about in between trains so hopefully the railway and Fox and Edwards both did ok out of the weekend.
