Minus boiler, LSL are doing that in house at Crewe. I understand it'll look complete with the casing back on but it'll be an empty shell.

Garter blue, valances and a rake of MK2/3's painted in the style of the Coronation...now that would be a seller to wine and dine set...

That is not BR green though, which was Middle Chrome and later Deep Bronze Green.

Either way, I'm with @21B and would like to avoid the most boring livery the A4s carried.

It has been suggested! Set of Mk3s in full Garter blue and Marlborough blue livery with chrome trim, with 1729 on the back.

Wouldn’t mind seeing Bittern in Express blue with the earlier BR lion over the wheel emblem.

But then how will we tell it apart from Sir Nigel Gresley? Look at the nameplate or numbers? That's too much hard work!!

I have no idea if Bittern ever carried this livery in LNER service, but I think it would be very interesting to see an A4 in Apple Green again - something I don't think has been seen since 1948, possibly earlier. Especially as we've had SNG in Wartime Black and Bittern has masqueraded as one of the Silver A4s, I think Apple Green is the only historic A4 livery we haven't seen in preservation. (Except for the experimental purple I guess. That would be cool to see too, even though I'm fairly sure Bittern never carried that!)

Didn't realise that...but 1729 too...that would be a real crowd puller.... maybe a one off run could be arranged..

The one's that were apple green, though, all had single chimneys...it just wouldn't look quite right to me, but that's just me.... anyhow owt will do.... it's another A4 alive....

I thought that wartime black looked surprisingly good on SNG, so perhaps Bittern could wear it - but as Hosking isn't averse to non-prototypical liveries <cough>60532</cough>, perhaps Apple Green would be a real treat? Or Garter Blue with "British Railways" in full on the tender? But please, not BR Green!

A trawl through Yeadon would give you the answer.

1729 has a timber body frame, and Lineisclear has reminded us that there's no way its use on NR metals would be countenanced - it couldn't even get approval to run between Grosmont and Whitby...........

Yes, completely impossible to run wooden carriages on the mainline now, it would never happen …

I'd love to see it back in it's silver/grey guise for running in- if that was a suitable sacrificial/undercoat.
