Apropos the steam heat van, to be fair it wasn't an ideal solution, a full length coach, and quite heavy. I think a better solution would have been a more modern example, based on a Mk 1 CCT and using a modern industrial boiler but of course there'd be no money to build a couple of these unless a supporter or group of supporters was prepared to pay for it - and it might be hard nowadays to even find a couple of CCTs.

Not sure which DMU is stored at Levisham, but I think is possibly the one bought by volunteer subscriptions) that was run into the ground and is now going to be stripped for spares and then going (surprise!) for scrap.

Not if you were going to do three return trips between Pickering and Grosmont...

Who'd have thought back then that there could have been a future for ADB968000 - ADB968003, or even the ETHELs...? Of course, ADB968001 does now have a future :)

On YT the other day, I saw a 101 is being converted into a Met-Camm 'lightweight' in the E79xxx series - wonder where that came from?

A couple of points here ….
Is Trip Advisor social media? Irrespectively, NYMR were responding to posts on there until a month ago?
    Is NP not social media?

The three car set is at Levisham. It's not in bad nick, almost a runner, I think.

The two car set at Grosmont is now a wreck.
D5061, a stalwart, not looking good either.

If its the original 101 it's off for conversion to glamping accomodation. As a operational unit it was beyond economic repair but will provide a valuable source of spares for the other 101 two car set "Daisy"which can be used with the centre car that belongs to the NYMR. The NYMR pays hire charges for Daisy and its owners have accumulated funds that will go some way towards the overhaul cost. It's recognised that from both an operational and heritage standpoint the railway should have a serviceable 101 set. A programme to achieve that is being finalised

For those saying there’s nothing North Eastern, therefore they should be reported.
What about the Gresley, the Auto-car and trailer, the J27, and the Q6?
Also do you think the tax man actually knows what the North Eastern Railway was?
There some vibes of ‘People’s front of Judea’ vs ‘Judean people’s front” here.

The Levisham 101 is Daisy ..privately owned ,which need needs heavy maintenance and is planned to go away for that being done later this year .The centre car is NYMR’s and was part of the dumped unit which Lineisclear likes the comment is was funded by donations and now dumped !!What more do people to see what is wrong with NYMR starting at the top …

The remaining two thirds are not going for scrap as it’s been purchased by someone who believes in preservation …half of it is in the Grosmont scrap line …

SNG is only there for a brief visit, the Autocar and its trailer are there for a slightly longer visit. That really only leaves the Q6 and J27 to represent the NER era and only one carriage that is approaching completion (which the management will probably not want to use, as it isn't a "heritage" Mk 1) b The Hull & Barnsley is better represented on the NYMR than the NER!

Thanks for this, I hadn't realised the three car set needed so much work.

I'm concerned 5061 is standing out in all weathers when it's a quarter of the preserved survivors. Can't the NYMR even put up a simple roof over the sidings to offer some protection?

but if you have no passengers turning up because of cold trains, there is no need to replace the track or bridge.

My point was that we had a solution to the heating of diesel hauled trains but as soon as money needed spending it was got rid of, as is usual with the NYMR. I agree spending priorities always have to be considered but the lack of heating on diesels has been a significant problem ever since D5032 came out of service and is still an embarrassment today.

It's the original 2-car 101 set that is going. It's centre car is in reasonable order and now runs with the "Daisy" pair. As regards the original pair, it s really just splitting hairs to say that it's not being scrapped, but is being stripped for spares and then undergoing "glamping" conversion - personally I can't see much difference in the outcome!
IMHO the priorities are all wrong. Experience has shown that stored locos and wooden bodied carriages suffer far more from being left out in the open than Mk 1s do, but the demic locos remain out in the open in all weathers whilst the MK1s spend the winter tucked up in the new carriage shed.. The pennies being saved this way will turn into many pounds extra later on if, by some miracle, the overhaul of D5061 takes place. I can see it being far more likely that the owners will be asked to remove it or it will be scrapped.

The original DMU set might not have needed so much work if it had been looked after from the outset.

.... but it seems as though the CEO has very little contact with real life, in the shape of passengers, and never gets to hear the complaints or experience them for herself.

It's so long ago that my recollection may not be accurate but I'm pretty sure that when its owners were given approval for 37264 to come to the railway it was on the understandimg that it would be converted to provide steam heat?

So if they have reneged on that commitment, have they been asked to remove it from the NYMR?
