That looks very tricky without affecting the scheduled trains. Could they possibly cross with the empty Paddington train at Malvern Wells? I think my money would be on via Chepstow if the culvert isn't fixed.

I would agree. Chepstow has my bet too. But you never know.

Just noticed on RTT that timings for Monday from Hereford to Chester and Chester to Lancaster have now disappeared off system

Lovely run to Salisbury. The MN chattered away nicely (and evenly!) up front. The speed restriction through Petersfield meant that Clan Line needed to dig in up to the tunnel. Over the top at 32 from 24 through the station. Not bad for 470 tons. Bob Baines at the controls.

This is an absolute rough piece of working out but looks like there is a possible path about 1215, cross the incoming WMR service at Shelwick and over the Malverns. But that’s very much a rough pen and paper piece of working and I haven’t looked north of Kidder

Probably due to the problems between Hereford and Shrewsbury, plan B.

A great spin on to Bristol. Plenty of chatter and some speedy stuff after Bath. All of it without help.

Here's my footage of Clan Line roaring and speeding through Hampshire and Wiltshire with the Great Britain XVII. I filmed Clan Line at Lockerley and Bapton. I hope you enjoy it.

Just talking to GWR staff at Bath; they confirm the cause of the lineside fire (at Twerton west of Bath) was the passage of the special train.

I’ve just seen the Bristol- Weymouth train; an hour late from Bath, after waiting for the line to reopen. Meanwhile my train held for over 30 minutes at Westbury behind 3 others trains, as the emergency services attended the fire.

It appears with hindsight that perhaps there should have been a little helper.

35028 Clan Line sets off from London with “The Great Britian XVII” on day 1 to Bristol, seen at Witley, Netley & Bapton

This is probably the only time I’ll see this years GB other than a glimpse of Tornado coming onto NVR after day 8

A really lovely exhaust beat from the first sequence. Thanks for posting it.

Not what was wanted on Day One. Fingers crossed that only leads to the the rear end diesel giving help when needed from today, and keeping steam operational to some extent at the front.

Cockett unassisted even though we were late because of an onboard emergency.

The clue to being unassisted is that you wouldn't go over the top at 6 mph otherwise, I don't think.
