In all fairness to the Bath fire; I believe it was directly reported to have started almost immediately after Clan Line passed, by a member of public. So I wouldn’t be totally against believing that.

I think you will find that it was looped at Acton Bridge to allow faster traffic to pass, it certainly was not stopped at Winsford box going by the timings on RTT.

Hi Ralph, I am merely going on the Traksy and Open Train Times block sections, both of which showed it as standing at Windsford SB for 20 minutes, and also a report from a photter who was in the area.

I apologise that the RTT timings don’t agree however as they don’t show Winsford they wouldn’t show the exact location of the delay. If you see the photo I attached to my previous post you will see both 1Z20 and 5Z93 stood together and 9A84 also stood going the other way. I timed this at about 8 minutes with all 3 stood in the same blocks on the map.

So to conclude I think YOU will find you could be wrong!

I also spotted the stoppage on Open Train Times while waiting for the GB and 37403 further north but it wasn't at Winsford, looked like it was in the Daresbury area between Weaver Junction and Warrington. That's where signal control changes from Winsford SB to Warrington power box which could cause a bit of confusion on the map as it has the box codes next to each other as shown:

Purely from looking at the map then and now as whatever the issue is still looks to be ongoing - everything heading north from Weaver-Warrington is having to stop there - I would suggest a signal or track circuit failure, but that's just a guess based on past observations of such events.

Thankyou. I had not realised that was the box changeover and not necessarily the box itself so that’s handy. I agree everything is suffering a delay there, so unlikely to be looping as good old Ralph suggests!
