This sort of thing was endemic when I was working and I’ve been retired for 18 years. It was about that time when freight haulage became logistics and industrial estates became business parks. It affected job titles the most, I didn’t understand what a lot of the posts in the company meant and it gets no better, my old employer is currently advertising for a Senior Guidewire Policy Centre Developer!
The job description takes the art of writing absolute B****cks to a whole new level.

Primarily because of a lack of what some would call industry! Logistics has a pseudo-military ring to it. Don't forget the explosion of businesses offering "solutions". Never saw anyone offering "solution solutions" though.

It's all American business-speak BS from crappy management books offered in the back of the Sunday Times Business Supplement circa 1993. You were never allowed to tell someone you had a problem, they just wanted to hear your solutions...

Yeah, fair comment, but it's an update and we should be thankful . There's lots of wailing and knashing of teeth when updates are NOT forthcoming (from various organisations) so to whoever is responsible for the update...........many thanks.:)

Ebay listings written by their AI tool are (sometimes) worth the comedy cringe factor - but rather like copying audio cassettes or photocopying a photocopy, AI's LLMs will soon eat themselves...

Guidewire (whatever that means) seems to be the in word at present. As retired staff I still occasionally get communications from the old firm, this is yet another employment opportunity. Can someone translate it into English, I’ve no idea what the job is, except that it’s nothing to do with architecture. Whatever it is they are paying a fair old salary for it.

Guidewire is the manufacturers of the software.
Further down the job description is the plain English translation: "Internally this role is know as System Architect." Even then, they can't get it quite right...

As well as "people what design buildings", architecture is also the term in IT for the people who design how systems work. IT architects are well paid, and carry a lot of responsibility - this will be the person in charge of making sure the listed bits of Guidewire (no, me neither) work together.

Thanks for that, never heard of guidewire, looks as if they are changing systems yet again. Back to 71000, does anyone know when it’s arriving at the Valley?

With regard to 71000 , is the agreement with LSL similar to that with 60007 where the working members continue to support and operate the engine , or with 71000 does the operation of the engine fall solely under LSL as if it were one of their own engines (60532, 5029 etc)

as a personal viewpoint It would be nice to see 71000 at the head of a VT tour as an reflection of 8+ years of hard work in TLW to return the engine to steam

Was surprised to read this as a comment on the LSG facebook page (replying to the press release re. move to SVR):

    Gary Molton
An absolute catastrophic decision by the trust chairman against the wishes of the engineering team. Dave O who spent 8 years restoring the loco is distraught. Not completing the overhaul or doing any running in. None of the group other than Dave has seen it move. No members day or anything. Tyseley management are appalled as no warranty can be given or have the chance to finish the job. The Duke group has effectively imploded due to the haste of one man, who has never got his hands dirty.

Can anyone say if this is a widely held view? A bit worrying if so.

I understand it's basically been handed over to LSL for the next 10 years. The trust will receive payment for every tour it works, but it'll be LSL looking after the loco.

I heard that the support group were up in arms a few weeks back whilst attending the VT AGM, and this explains why.

For my part, it sounds all too like the situation with Tornado and WCRC - we haven’t had a word from the A1 Trust regarding support crew and steward involvement going forward.

Missing many key phrases though Tom, such as:
    A view from the Bridge
Run it up the flag pole
Commercial Confidentiality forbids us saying more
    Stakeholders
    Ramp up activity
    A win win
    Value Added
    Concentrate on core business
    et al

You could get a full bingo card I suspect.:)
