Seems odd to stand down the short set on a bank holiday weekend (Sat/Mon), then again is it the NYMR.

Well, I'm planning on visiting Saturday (starting Whitby) so I'll see how it goes.

It would be nice to travel on the 1055 autocar to Grosmont, but there isn't a ticket for that journey!

Any chance they are being clever and using a marketing opportunity to give something else a rest or fix a niggle? No rain on the horizon likely means the diesels will continue for the majority of May. I agree less capacity but they should know by now if they can get away with that from early ticket sales (vs what percentage they normally are of the overall totals).

Going by past experience ..doubtful .
A64 is usually a car park on bank holiday weekends with cars going to/from the coast ..especially bright and sunny ones ..
Exams etc you would hope are staggered and factored into the Thursday and Friday non running days …

"Back by popular demand" - can we really take this at face value or were they always planning to run it, given that they've got it on hire...

They run it on Sundays at the minute anyway. But if it isn't for an operational reason (shortage of engines etc) then if it was 'by popular demand' I'd of thought they'd squeeze it in as extra rather than actually reduce capacity by running it. They could of either run an extra path (as last years Yellow timetable) or just had it as a Grosmont to Goathland shuttle.

But its also a little late in the day to announce it which is what sent me down the operational wonderings earlier. So who knows...

Or just really short of carriages for the Whitby sets so they have stripped the Pickering to Grosmont set.

Can’t be that …‘the C&W team ensure that a minimum of 26 coaches are ‘rail worthy’ to work the daily core timetable ….page 26 of Moors Lies…

I always thought this was a bit on a non Bank Holiday, especially as the kids do not have half term.
Perhaps confirmed by the fact at 17:25 on the Thursday before you can still book a room for Saturday and Sunday nights in the Pickering Premier Inn or the two in Scarborough.

Bear in mind that it has only just been Easter which was later than usual this year. The kids in Wales only went back to school this Monday just gone.

True Yorkshire weather forecast I see
Whitby 11/9/10 max for the 3 days
    Scaggy 12/10/11

Bracing for us Southerners, maybe a heatwave for Yorkshire folk then;)

Ive never got over leaving Tenterden in shorts and t shirt for a day trip to the North Norfolk on August Bank Holiday and having to go in to the sports shop in Sheringham to buy a hoody and fleece bottoms.

Cold in Whitby first early on with the wind and cloud. Warm now as it's full sun.

The Autocar was rather busy when I joined it at Levisham. Stood to Goathland where I was getting off anyway. Lots of people at Goathland waiting for it, some seemed to decide to wait for the next one.

The other sets are well loaded, but certainly not full. The 10.40 Grosmont to Whitby had a few empty tables and some with sole travellers. Quite a few people at Whitby this morning were getting returns to Goathland.
