I must be missing something: if it's on a low-loader, surely it can be offloaded pointing either way? No need to involve a turntable? Or am I missing a joke?

I thought maybe it should refer to the Class 20?

Yes. There was a smiley face in there somewhere, but otherwise very deadpan.

So long as it doesn't enter Tenterden station broadside on it'll be fine ;)

And a good one too. I really enjoyed it.

Jokes from this Nat Pres member should be expected; look at his name and where he lives!

    I like it. :)

Clearly 'crossing the T' at Tenterden then (naval tactic link there!).

Does anyone know how many people are permitted on the goods train brake vans at the Diesel gala and how much the supplement is please? The website advises they are available by the C&W workshops from a stall.

Some muppet has been posting stories that the Class 50 never arrived at the Gala, as it had "derailed on the lorry". Robin Coombes's post on Facebook shown his clear annoyance with this nonsense and gave a justified rebuke.

Why the hell would somebody wish to spread such stories?

For anyone in doubt of 50's arrival. They will destroy your illusion. https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1CvWc8j5bD/

Bizarre. Robin said in his post that they knew who it was and it was someone involved in heritage - anyone care to unmask them?

That won't achieve anything. Better to concentrate on the gala.

On a separate note, I understand KESR No.25 Northiam has been sold to a private owner which is what led to its period of extended hire at the L&HR. Was it previously owned by the railway itself? I'm just curious to know why the railway would want to let a resident Austerity tank leave when the other big engines - the Std 4 and Austerity 'Sapper' - are both on hire to the railway. I'm sure there's a good reason though!

25 was not owned by the railway, but by RSE, who still own 23. It was sold to Road and Rail, who also own Swiftsure, and Sapper (incidentally, it's Swiftsure at the railway at the minute, Sapper is still at the Dean Forest Railway.) As a result of that sale, the terms of hire for 25 changed, and the railway simply couldn't afford to pay for 25 as well. Sad, but there we are.
