Planned that all Grosmont - Pickerin services will be stea mhauled tomorrow, using 5428, 44806 & 60163. 92134 should also be running in. Fingers crossed that it all goes OK.

Do you know if they'll be running full-length trains (i.e. 7 coaches) it is encouraging that they might be getting back to normality, but a lot of the potential revenue from 60163's visit must have been lost due to the days it couldn't run, and even when it has run, due to shorter formations - and remember, this visit is taking place in the peak season when the trains should be pretty full anyway. One has to wonder how much extra business it is bringing in, and whether it is enough to offset the likely higher hire fees.

You never know, 60163 might have been very cheap- it's not like it has anywhere else to be.

In the absence of any positive information, I prefer not to prejudge. On the other hand, the context of things does not inspire confidence.

I did glance at the webcam for the 16:40 leaving behind Tornado today. Seemed very lightly loaded again from what you could see of the platform side of the train. Not sure how other Tornado services are but two days I have caught it leaving and it appeared to be a very light load both times for summer holiday time. Maybe everyone was in Whitby.

On Tuesday, its first full day, I’d say the 10.55 ex Pickering service was pretty much full behind Tornado, whilst I’d guess the 14.10 departure was 50% full with 5 coaches on. From experience, this is a higher than normal load for this time of year, whilst the 16.40 always runs fairly empty from Grosmont which I’d guess it’s mainly a positioning move for the following mornings 10.55 departure (personally I think a 15.4o departure would make more sense than 16.40, but on the other hand it does connect with the 15.55 Northern service out of Whitby, and indeed I did just this last Saturday …).
FYI the 9.20 departure with 7 coaches was full full, with some passengers waiting for the 10.55 departure in order to secure a seat.

I saw good loadings on Tuesday. The 1640 is almost an ECS from Grosmont but it does pick up quite a few in Goathland.
    Tornado looked magnificent.

For the next four days Tornado only does the 1055 and 1640 (0930/1705 Sunday), the 1235/1410 being the Moorlander, shame that it isn't running at all on Bank Holiday Monday.

I have just received an online invitation to the NYMR's
Inspiration: The Railway 200 Exhibition Train
    - well, in fact it went straight into spam..... OK, perhaps this is just me - but it doesn't seem to say exactly where this train will be! Yes, I can research this nearer the time - but surely that's the very first item of information that needs to be there? NB also the internal link to book the (free) tickets doesn't work....

Looking on the website it states about halfway down the relevant page that it's at Grosmont. Not the easiest to find at first glance though. At least it's on there - the train is meant to be at Bo'ness in October and there's no mention on their website about it yet.

Great change of locomotives today, putting Tornado on the first train out of Pickering, instead of the pre advertised 10:55 service. No social media post or anything in advance to warn customers. Luckily got here in plenty of time….

I'm guessing 44806 has failed then, as it was booked to be on the 18.45 arrival back at Pickering last night.

When it was updated I don't know but the online roster on the website shows Tornado on the 0920 and 47077 on the 1055.

47077 has gone light engine to Pickering, through Goathland 0942, assuming 44806 has failed.

These things happen, but the communications given the number of people employed to do the role must be better. What would it have taken to put a social media post out when they knew that Tornado would have been on the earlier service, instead of burying it as a footnote on the website under the roster.

Don’t know what was wrong with 44806 but it’s back to as planned tomorrow with 44806 on the 09.20 and 60163 on the 10.55. Not sure what the plan is for Sunday.

Interesting statement in the dailymotion today about the use of volunteers.

Perhaps you could be a bit less cryptic for those of us who haven’t seen it?
