Sadly unable to attend but checking the website (as I could see no ticket link on Facebook) does your ticket just include on round trip for £35, just like a normal day? Because that is how it reads to me.
If it does then a very strange thing to do for a gala.

No, it's a rover and it specifies this on the website by saying 'Valid on any train on date shown'.

Although I did not read it like that as do you not normally have to select a train? I just took that to mean you could use any train but not more than once.
Which sort of goes to prove it is best to make things less open to misinterpretation.

There is no selecting a train, you just select the date?
'Valid on any train on date shown' is pretty clear in it's wording. Not sure how you'd word that any better.

Well I had already looked at what a ticket cost to see how much of an increase the gala ticket. So when I see the price is the same as a normal day 'Valid on any train on date shown' does not to me imply what we all regard as a gala rover ticket.

Hey I took to attempts to pass O Level English Language back in the 60's so you need to work to the lowest common denominator (or thicko's like me).

I guess it helps having the prior knowledge that last year's gala was also £35 for a rover. In my opinion the strangest issue is the fact they've removed any trace of event pages on their new site. I'm sure last year it was probably even more conspicuous that it was a rover on the event page.

There is a timetable on the event page of the VOR's Fareharbor ticket site.

    Aberystwyth departures are:

    • 1100 9 + Set B (GWR Chocoate & Cream)
    • 1240 7 & 8 (Sat) 8 & 7 (Sun) + Set A
    • 1340 60 + Set B
    • 1520 9 (Sat) 7 (Sun) + Set A

The standard train fares apply during the Steam Festival. The only difference is there is an admission charge to visit the Pete Waterman Making Tracks exhibition.

Ordinarily a standard class ticket is a day rover valid on any train on the date of travel. Our booking system normally asks visitors to select their outward train as this helps us ensure we have enough capacity on each train. We've removed this requirement for the Steam Festival as we know people will want to make full use of the rover possibilities.
