I believe it was in steam at Easter, just for one day, before the annual boiler ticket expired. I'd also heard that nothing much was going to happen with it until next year.

I believe it will stop after the Bygones Weekend for it's annual exam and to have a number of finishing off jobs, plus modifications in light of experience. I don't think it's regular Monday and Friday turns run after then anyway.

For those in Porthmadog for the vintage/bygones/Victorian weekend. There is also something going on at the WHHR.

Driver experience sessions. Sunday 5th October.

Do you fancy having the chance to drive a 2ft gauge steam engine or diesel locomotive along our entire line. On Sunday 5th October you could do this and realise a life long dream. We are offering several slots throughout the day where you will have one to one tuition on how to drive our steam or Diesel engines including the chance to drive from Porthmadog to Pen-Y-mount and return. We will be using Gelert our 1953 built Bagnall steam engine or Glaslyn our 1952 built Ruston diesel locomotive to fulfil these sessions.

Sessions will run from 10.45am at 15 minute intervals, bookable in advance at

    bookings@whr.co.uk

or turn up and wait on a first come first served basis (pre-booked time slots will take precedent over waiting participants).

Each 15 minute session cost £55 for steam or £33 for diesel and will include driving instruction and a round trip with your hand on the regulator/throttle.

The shop at the Welsh highland heritage railway will also be open all day for all your book and model needs.

Caffi Russell's Café will also be open all Day serving Breakfast from 9am until 11.30am, lunch 12pm until 4pm.
Drinks and Home Made Cakes served throughout the day.

(Persons must be 18 yrs old or over, must be wearing suitable clothing and footwear. Contact for further details)

Also on Sunday, managed to get a photo of Samson in only light rain instead of pouring down! At the crossing near Rhiw Goch.

A private project I was not previously aware of seems to be taking shape rapidly in Somerset, destined for addition to the WHR fleet - a Dholapur State Railway 2-8-4T! read all about it at https://www.festipedia.org.uk/wiki/815. An exciting project, to be sure!

So, new builds are not yet dead; start saving for the tickets, I guess, for 2028.

Not just the article about the ZA/6 that is interesting; the whole "HOW'S IT ALL GOING ?" publication is. I think some other heritage railways should be considering how to produce similar high quality information. I was particularly struck by what was written about volunteering!

I have just watched the Ffestiniog railway featured in the Railways From The Air series and was saddened to see that no mention was made of the tremendous amount of work done to reroute the upper section to avoid the flooded part of the line.
