The Bluebell is about to turn out another Bulleid: http://extension3363.fotopic.net/p59550994.html

and has a couple more vintage coaches well advanced: http://www.bluebell-railway.co.uk/bluebell/cw_news/3687.html & http://www.bluebell-railway.co.uk/bluebell/cw_news/1520.html, not to mention an LMS wagon : http://www.bluebell-railway.co.uk/bluebell/cw_news/1520.html

Not bad for a department that is said by some to be badly demoralised with volunteerrs leaving in droves. I only wish mine could do as badly!

Never ceases to amaze me the quaility of the work produced by the C & W. Even before the superb facilities they have now, anything outshopped was just stunning. So much to look forward to in the future as well. Can't wait for the Birdcage, I do just about recall travelling in one at the bluebell and standing up on the guards seat to look out the window.
Anyone know when a birdcage last ran at the Bluebell?

    Keep it going.

Hear hear! Sometimes it can seem to take absolutely ages for something to appear, but that's because they are doing it properly. The standard of work is admirable, I know politics has driven a cold steel blade into their world, but there are still the craftspeople around who carry on regardless. Well done to them all.

    Dave,
I've been trying to establish when 1061 came out of service. It ran for about a decade starting in 1965, so all I can guess at present is a vague "mid '70s".
One of the demos being lined up for the 50th Anniversary Gala includes a demo of trimming one of the seats for the Birdcage 3363.
    Regards,
    Richard

It's very good, very good indeed, but it's a shame that you have to try to revive old animosities just as the anger is dying away.

Dave, now have the answer from Roger Williams: 1061 last ran in passenger service in 1975. Its last trip to SP was in the Spring of 1976 as part of a test train hauled by Blackmore Vale prior to its return to traffic. Its replacement in the actual re-launch train was the then newly overhauled Bulleid open third 1482.
    Regards,
    Richard

I would have been 9 when it was withdrawn so about right for me to remember travelling in it.
    Thanks,

    Dave G.

Certainly didn't intend to revive any ill feelings, to be honest I thought they had been overexaggerated.

Actually he is being IRONIC. He is praising the C and W Department, not condemning it.

Why dont you understand this? You're not American by any chance!
